problem with air con unit on E46 328 ci

   had this posted in the general technical discussion section without any replys....hope you guys know some info.
The fans seem to get stuck on a high setting some of the time and the manual adjustments dont work at other times.  Anyone had similar problems?  The car is going in nest week and any help about pin-pointing the problem would be much appreciated.
