c'est la vie.

stone chippings must know when you've just forked out for a new screen.

my lovely new screen just picked up a two-headed nasty little chip in the same place as the one that mullah'd the last screen. I think its small enough to repair this time.

to cap it all, the rear silencer blew on the way home.

updated pics of my landfill, abuse expected shortly!

Sorry about above Philip, shortly after I got 520 chip mangled screen in middle of driver's view, insurance replaced it, can imagine what it must feel like when screen just been changed!

Are you insured comprehensively? Most insurers allow unlimited repairs free, it's replacement they don't like. Not much you can do about silencer except replace it or have it rewrapped. Condolences from both of us.

No abuse from here Philip, I think she looks lovely.

I've never been a fan of chrome on a car but the basic shape of the 23 is timeless.  Did they ever do a shadowline model ?

Agreed, no abuse from here either! If I was on the look out for a 'new' BMW, an e23 would be high on the list (Doive, you need to get your current car on the road first!). Very tidy looking example there Philip, I can't understand why paople ignore the e23 in such huge numbers. All the better for the rest of us I suppose, keeps the prices down when we want to buy them. Keep running your 'landfill', looks great.

non of my old wrecks warrant fully comp. its the first screen I've had replaced in 27 years of driving, so I've done OK over the years.

screen & silencer renewals affect all cars, ancient & modern. its just part of car ownership.

Yes, the run out 1986 models in Germany could be ordered with shadowline. I have the 1986 German market E23 brochure and the Dia Black e23 with shadowline looks awesome.

shadowline line on E23 was not available in the UK as far as I know.

they are too big for most BMW enthusiasts. they are not chuckable until you fit uprated shocks & lower sport springs. most people find them slab sided & utterly hideous. most people are too scared to go against the flow, so everyone goes for e28 & e24, and ignore their big brother.

Lol, if a car has a Haynes manual it's usually too mainstream for me. Made an exception for E28. Slab sided? Have they seen the 7 series Volvos? Certainly not hideous. Will ask more details another time about uprated shocks and lower springs, not a great fan of lowering, too many go too far. Great fun scaring the life out of hot hatches going past on bends in something much bigger, I think everyone should have an E23!

BMW offered their own Sport Suspension springs & shocks together with sport seats & sterering wheels, so you could order a really sporty e23 right from the showroom.

Alpina, Eibach, Bilstein, H&R and many others produced sport springs and shocks.

some sport items are still available.

slightly lower springs will improve the looks of the e23 as the stock springs are very long travel, especially at the front, and the cars look too high compared with sporty e28 & E24.

Ok, will have to look into that, don't have a prob with slight lowering for handling benefits, it's the people that slam cars to the deck then can't get over speed bumps - often with neon lights underneath - that send me cuckoo.

As for too high, had several 200 and 700 series Volvos between us, I kept threatening to take them off their stilts, but Wendy said all the time she could beat Audi TT coupes round the local 180 bend I was to leave them alone, lol
