I am getting this annoying creaking in my steering wheel whenever I execute any turns.  I had all the front bushes and joints sprayed up with WD40 but the noise is still present.  Anyone have an idea of what the problem might be.

 

I am getting the real ball joints changed at an Independent in High Wycombe next week so will ask him to look at.

is it just behind the steering wheel or low down in the steering rack?

I have a small creak behind the steering wheel...I greased the area a few weeks back but it has come back...

maybe the power stearing fluid needs topping up?

I have same problem the creaking noise seems to come and go though hasnt happend for about 6 weeks now...

The power steering fluid was topped up a few weeks ago and is in the correct limits. 

The noise seems to be inside the cockpit somewhere as opposed to exterior.  I will try to spray the old WD40 all over the steering wheel fixings underneath.

i have this very same prob, had it on my old zetec fiesta too. think it's the bearings needing greasing behind the steering wheel. the bm creeks, whereas my fester sounded like sand was in the bearings....

you get used to it.

I live in High Wycombe so would be interested in your opinion of the Indy you are going to use and their name too. Got a service due soon and some other bits which need doing shortly.

The specialist comes highly recommended by over half a dozen previous customers and in comparing his prices to some other Independants his quotes were most reasonable.  So I shall give him a whirl and will post the results straight after.
