Topic: 728i Sport Posted: 23-May-2005 at 07:27 |
Hi guys
Just a general question what are the 728i sport models like ?? Talking circa 97 , I currently have a 525 E34 sport and am very happy with it but looking around it seems you can pick up the 728i sports quite cheap at the moment so maybe in a few months I might consider a change . Anyone got any opinion on these ? And can you get them in manual ?? all the ones I see tend to be auto
Cheers Stu

Only auto I'm afraid, but the box also had the feature where you can select the manual option and flick up and down the box without clutch if you fancied it!
I've heard that they can be a little lethargic where the sport model is concerned if you wanted outright speed to match the looks , but with the body kit and the wheels/seats etc they do look good, and considering the price you can buy them for now, they are a reasonable 'bargain'.

There's a few in the autotrader, but I'd try and get one that has the BMW sport alloys (18" 5 spoke Schnitzer style) and the Alpina suspension option.
A friend of my dad's has a 2.8, and wished he'd gone for the 3.5, as although the 2.8 is a fine engine, it lacks a bit of torque where he feels its needed every now and again.

You can get a manual one but only if you take a trip across the channel. Believe it or not, there were a few manual E38s sold in Europe, LHD only.

Really! I didn't know that!
I imagine it would be a pig to sell on as the majority of buyers want a 7 with an auto box.

Johan has a friend with one and put up some pics recently on one of the 7 forums. The interior shot looked very strange! I believe you could get them in the UK but everyone here specified the autobox option.
