now call me paranoid, but evertime I post, the view counter starts at 3. Is this because posts are being viewed by the mods first?

Not that I know of !
I've seen those kind of forums, and don't fancy moderating on that basis, you'd never had time to do anything else.
A bit of a long shot, but have you done a spyware test lately ?, that tends to slow things up, which is what I suspect is happening to you.

I have noticed that. It is something to do with the forum coding which
somehow inserts a figure of 3 instead of 1 or 0 when the thread is
first read.
There is nothing suspicious about it though either moderator, spyware or otherwise
