e34 a future classic?...
maybe a real mint M5 or 535 sport in a few years
A E34 sport isnt worth no where near the value of the e30 sport, anyone have an idea as to why that may be?
certainly shouldnt be, the e34 is a much better car in every area
Volume do you think?
Im not prepared to sell mine for silly ££ so im keeping it for now , ill sadly sell it when the right buyer comes along
Yes, the e34 is the best car ive ever owned as well.Amazing car for its age .

Difficult to say, really.
I'd like to keep it for a long time - which in my ownership is anything over 2 years!! But, you just never know. Even if I am forced to desist from using it as my daily driver, I may still keep it on, either as a high days and holidays motor, or strip it out and convert it into a rather portly racer! It would be a toughie - the spec is such that it makes a nicely equipped cruiser (climate control, leather, cruise control - if it worked!), but also has a few tasty tidbits that wouldn't go amiss on a racer, such as LSD.
I guess I'll just enjoy it until it falls apart, or the government make it too difficult/expensive to use!

I'm on my second E34 M5 and have managed - thus far - to keep it from being TWOC. I wanted one as soon as they were relased but obviously couldn't afford one.
It's a superb car, it's all paid up and as long as wifey can cope with the insurance/servicing costs - which probably translates better to so long as I keep earning - it'll be a lifer, which suits me fine.
Once we finish the work on the house which'll be 2 - 3 years, then I'd like an E30 M3 and a very late M6 to join the fam,ily too.

I will keep my car for four years or over. This car was purchased for the long run and as long as it keeps on ticking I will do a million miles if need be.
There is no doubt that BMW's are truly the ultimate driving machine in every aspect. There is no imitation that can be excepted.

I plan to keep both my E12 M535i and E21 320 Baur indefinitely. Both were purchased 'at the right time' i.e. as old cars rather than classics and with only gradual refurbishment costs and zero depreciation I see no reason to sell either!

I've had 10 BM's, 3 of which have been E34's. I currently have a '93 E34 540i (warp speed anyone?) and a '95 525i touring (great all-rounder).
I've owned E30's, E28's, E24, and E34's, and think the E34 is the best of them. Only downside is they're heavy cars so like a drink around town and don't like been taken by the scruff of the neck and thrown around bends. Good on motorways and in a crash though!

Guess this is why trying to find a good 5 is so hard, nobody wants to sell them.
Thanks for your input guys

I know its an old post guys but just thought i would revive it ...see how many of you still have your cars going strong.... As i promised myself, i bought my next car ... which was another E34...
the 520 is still going strong to with another 7k on the clock ... but decent ones are every increasingly hard to find took 8 months to find a decent 540 that hadnt been abused with a sub 100k mileage and FBMWSH worth the wait thought .

Very nice, Phillip!
I was planning on keeping my E39 for several years, as it's so
comfortable, with a reasonable bit of "go" in it too. Unfortunately
several events (ie a hefty tax bill, for one. . . .) are combining to push me
towards having to sell. It looks like moving back to a Compact for a
while, but I'll be back!

I've had my e39 520i since March 1st and, although it initially looked like I'd be getting rid of it quickly, I now can't see myself parting company with it for a long time.
Have just finished the ACS bodykit on it, and will be putting in Eibach springs and an Eisenmann exhaust in the next few weeks.
If I was to change, I think it'd be for a newer e39 523 or 528, or an e38 728.
So now it's a matter of keeping it between the ditches....

I have spent about £100 this month on sorting out my cooling system. Including £34 worth of antifreeze, and £67 worth of parts inc new water pump, thermostat and thermostat housing. Did it myself two weekends ago to save a bit of cash.
Heater is SCORCHIO now right enough!
She also needs a new battery - £60 from BMW (diy fit maybe this weekend!)
Two new front tyres - £200 max
Front brakes to get plopped (diy again!) in this weekend but I bought the bits last May so I have paid for them already.
Hmm maybe a few quid I have spent/need to spend right enough but it is certainly no more than I have spent on my last car! So I am used to it I suppose.

I know I said no plans to sell, but that might be changing - got wind of a '00 520i (2 years newer than mine) in the same colour that I could transfer all the parts onto, and the change wouldn't cost me anything. Just waiting to find out the spec on the newer one - if it's not as high as what I have, I'm not changing!
EDIT: staying put - newer car wasn't as good as what I have.

No plans to sell. It's my second e34 and neither have really cost me anything. I have one of the quickest practical cars on the road and I love it to bits. As I work in the trade I can get most parts at a reasonable rate, so no plans to sell until she dies for good! (that will be a very sad day )

I can't see myself ever selling either the E21 Baur or the Z1. The E30
will be leaving within a year, I don't know what I'm going to replace
it with (if anything). 6.0 E-cat B12 seems most likely, but an E28 or
E34 M5 is a possibility, as is an E28 Alpina.

I quite like the 540 ,I've also fitted LPg so its very economical, I've had it re chipped & a Stainless freeflow air filter & its a manual so it pops on .
Its roomy for my 7 year old daughter in the back & i like it best of all because it feels so sturdy & safe!
