working upto the 31st May, the taxpayer will have earnt enough to pay the Wage Tax bill for the year.So the rest of your wages that is earnt ,is your OWN--- dream on. The Adam Smith Institute, say the you worked an extra 3 days from the 2004 year end, due to Increased taxes to pay, and that in 2006 you will need to work into June- before you are equal to compare with this year. |

Can you check this one out John ? There was a news report on Radio two today whilst I was driving to Scotland that says HM Gov are looking at putting 5 x tax on large engined vehicles. It wasn't any more specific than that, but that would be £900.oo per year, and would bring us inline with Ireland. Now that would be a killer to nice weekend cars like mine. |

I have a feeling that the classic car lobby are going to be very unhappy at Gordo's latest plans to make the pips squeak.....
Hmm, let's see how long before this thread gets locked.... Edited by Horsetan |

I hear all sorts of things. Haven't yet heard voices in my head yet, but surely only a matter of time, hehehe. Ironic, given one of my recent new clients has been diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic. I suddenly understand why my (soon-to-be-ex-) colleagues were so eager to palm him off onto me...... Please tell me this is an early april fools joke. We get one free tax disc each through disablility, but ALL our cars except the Mazda are over 2 litres, three of them 2.8!

It didn't give an engine size Ian, and it was only on one news bulletin. From recent events I would think its aimed at large 4 x 4's. |

There seems to be some truth about the report, wether it happens or not is another matter I suppose. http://www.channel4.com/news/special-reports/special-reports -storypage.jsp?id=212 |

Slightly worrying if it is true. They take absolutely no account of
useage, just a blanket increase in tax across the board. As you say
Nigel, will put an abrupt end to the little weekend cars like yours and
mine. Yes, it would bring us into line with Ireland, but they pay high
road tax instead of high fuel tax. We will end up with both.
Current taxation levels comfortably cover all road maintenance and
improvement budgets, so where does the money go? I really wouldn't mind
if I could see a definitive end point for my money, such as major road
improvements. Instead, the condition of the roads and the standard of
driving slips further and further with nobody in authority caring one
bit, as long as the money keeps flowing in.

We'll have to see how this goes K. The classic car movement is fairly strong over here, and an awful lot of classic cars have large engines. |

Whether a car has a one litre engine or a five litre engine, makes no difference if its badly serviced, therefore to penalise those with larger engines is daft. I have seen many one litre scoots puffing all sorts of rubbish out of their exhaust and polluting the atmosphere, yet they qualify for the 'cleaner car/small engine' road tax.

The usual Left wing Begg Slime trotting out the with made up stats, to justifiy his recent TFL special appointment part time job, at £111000 pa , thanks to Livingstone.(youre paying) What the Slime Never say, is Industrial polution accounts for 60% of Global warming-- programme on other night--discussing power stations--USA intends to Build 500 Coalfired stations without the filter systems that were designed to be 100% clean, and as shown in one Showpiece example they have-- and then there is China ---Bet youre convinced about car pollution eh !!!!! No mention from begg about the uncontrolled Airline Industry pollution using TaxFree fuel , and being at 30K feet gets the job done quicker. So Why isnt the slimes targetting these Govt,s--why not a ticket tax of £50 PP ??? ----YOU know why---the drivers are a soft touch and are brainwashed. |

Guess this might have alot of use in the future...specially if we don't get the promised referendum on the EU Constitution. |

This will please you no end then...Older US jets out of retirement due to increased passenger numbers... And an increasing number of European airlines are posting profits cut due to heavier taxes levied on fuels, this doesn't happen as much in the US where their fuel is subsidised. British air passengers are being charged on average £10 per head as a fuel surcharge, other European countries charge anything from £10 to £50 per head for fuel surcharge, the US does not charge this. When you consider the average seating on a plane on the British register is 300, thats £3000 that goes to the Government and that before the plane even starts an engine. Edited by Goldryder |
