She is gorgeous...absolutely gorgeous.
I wouldn't mind having her parked outside, though she wouldn't be parked much cos she would be out and about alot. I love classic American cars, always have done, hope she goes somewhere that will care for her and treat her with the respect she deserves. |

They aren't as thirsty as you might think, Killian, if careful and you don't run them to hard you can get around the 15-20mpg..which is about the same as the Skyline and some of the bigger BMW's. They are incredibly responsive on the throttle, and they coast superbly too, easy to work with and on, infact IMHO very few cars can beat them in alot of ways. But I am biased I spose.

Chargers can go for well over £50k in mint condition, this one has damage, albeit slight, but damage all the same, so £17k is a fair price.

Had a thrash with a Firebird through Lewisham/Catford in South London decades ago on my way my dad's place off the A20. Gave up on my 750-4 bike at over a ton, even at 6am, it was getting too suicidal!

About 5 years ago there was an article in FHM about buying used Dodge Chargers. I have to confess I bought the mag not for the article on the Chargers but the fact that it had Rachel from S club 7 on the front cover wearing a nice pair of leather trousers! Slap....back to real world That article said you could buy one for about £10k back in 2000 but if you paint it orange, weld the doors shut and stick a big confederate flag on the roof and 01 on the sides you will actually lower the price of the car and not increase it! I think I still have that mag, I kept it as it had a) Rachel from S club 7 on the front cover wearing a nice pair of leather trousers and b) told you where to get the Dixie horn from. The Dukes car was a 440 cubic inch engine which must be about 7.something litres. For all you die hard Dukes of Hazzard fans you may be interested in this! I can't wait to get it! And no it's not because of Daisy Dukes legs as I was far to young for that sort of thing when I first saw the Dukes on tv as I was 4 or 5 years old! Andrew |

LOl, brings back memories. My mum, as we were living in South London at the time, banned me outright from putting a Confederate battle flag on the roof of my bright red Toyota Cressida estate. Had the "dixie horns though, concealed in engine bay from casual glance, with a two way switch under steering column - so I could switch back to originals if stopped! Can still get them on ebay, think waxacar does them, lol!

Ian I have a dixie horn in the house. I had it wired into the Senator I used to have. I wanted it to be wired in to the kickdown switch so everytime I blasted past someone overtaking them, they would hear the horns ala dukes style. The Mrs used to hate going in the car when I sounded to horns though! Haven't yet put them in the Beamer as I can't find a suitable location for the switch near the controls., should be easy right enough to mount in the boot seeing as how the battery is there! Andrew |

The Van Hool coach (purple/yellow one in sig) had 110db dixies fitted on the bodywork underneath the front entrance step. Entire coach vibrated when they were used. Had the standard horn there too, which we could switch over to the dixies at will. Quite a few coaches have 110db plus airhorns, as do alot of HGV's too.
Definately wakes up the dozier drivers when you creep up behind them and give them a quick blast I had one coach in the yard that had a air dump valve fault and only air dumped through the airhorns, what a racket and a half that made going down the road howling like a banshee, got it fixed after I threatened to have the Ministry put a prohibition order onto it. There was no way the coach was fit for use howling at top volume through airhorns of 110db all day. Edited by Goldryder |

Ally Where would one be able to buy a bus or truck air horn from? One of my neighbours asked me recently if I knew where I could get a train horn seeing as how I work on the Railways. I said I didn't know and that he might have better luck getting a truck or bus horn. Andrew |

Best bet is contacting secondhand sales companies who deal in coaches/HGV's as they are about as easy to get hold of as rocking horse manure, there is some itchiness about how legal they are.
I had my set from when I drove the artic in 1989 and I think I had to order them in from the US, although I can't really remember. If there is a commercial breakers near you, you might try them too. Sorry I can't be more help with this, but like I said there is a huge grey area about legalities in respect to airhorns, despite some manufacturers such as Irizar putting them on as standard. |

I think the law is against anything that plays an alternating note as this could be mistaken as a siren! And anything that plays more than one note or a chord. A chord is two or more notes sounded at once i.e. two trumpets/horns played at the same time. You would not be allowed to sound one trumpet/horn then the other as this would then be a two tone alternating horn - like todays train horns. Dixie horns are tunes so defo not allowed. The packet mine came in says it is illegal to mount on a self powered road vehicle or something to that effect! Andrew |

Main reason why I installed mine on one of the coaches was cos we often carried disabled passengers, including ones with hearing problems. I used to give them a 10 minute warning hoot on them at attractions etc as they were loud enough for the majority to hear and most passengers with hearing difficulties rarely strayed far from the people they came with as carers.
But they did come in useful more than once when confronted by errant drivers. |
