Hi mate It's probably a Z3 gear lever, it's a popular upgrade, take a look on www.e30zone.co.uk and have a look in the articles section, there's a write up there on the upgrade. The lever itself costs about £20 from the BMW dealers. |

do not use this one. you need to bend the selector shaft to make it fit properly which in my opnion is a terrible thing to do. go to bmw and buy ane36 m3 shifter and fit that. there is no need to mod the car in any way and it shifts 5% less than the z3 unit !!!! |

Sorry Jay, but there's no point in fitting a shifter for 5% less travel. The UUC shifter has a 30% reduction in travel but obviously it's more expensive, i may have a particular interest in this post for some reason though Edited by Robbie Bradford |

I am refering to 5% less than the Z3 which is 25% less than the original e30.

Chippeduk.. Please tell me more about this E36 M3 unit... Does it fit
the same way as the articles on E30zone.??? It looks easy enough.
The UCC sounds and looks great but too pricey for me.. Im only after a cheap mod to improve shifting... and if I can sort if for under £50 then I am a happy chap..! Thanks all.. MED. |

it fits exactly as the z3 shifter but doesnt require you to bend any pieces of bracketry or bar. you just remove the retainer clip and fit that way, very easy and it costs around 26 quid all in. one piece of advice, buy the nylon bush for the circular part of the shifter, this costs around 3 quid and makes the shifter VERY stiff and MUCH better. |

Did mine a while ago using the 1.9 Z3 and it works a treat.....also replaced the nylon bush which makes a great deal of difference. As said no point spending a fortune on short shifts from perf companies!!! Only good thing the stealers can do for us though |

thats not the right one. it come about by people on the e30zone and requires you to bend the rod which in my opinion is a bad thing. |

Funny how the Z3 shift fitted straight into my M3 without modification then isn't it? Edited by thepits |

I am offering quality advice and not messing around. The FACT is on most applications the z3 shifter requires the lower arm to be bent. Not on every occasion but almost all of them. the m3 unit is the same as the z3 but the angle of the rod means it doesnt need the lower arm to be bent.
if the z3 works for you then thats great but why would anyone want to use the z3 shifter knowing that there is a 90% chance you need to mod the bar when with the m3 one you 100% dont need to and it shifts better with less travel. |

Well. I have ordered all the said parts today.. I went for the m3
shifter as dont fancy the bending lower arm thing very much..! i'd
rather go for the m3 with no mods than any slight chance of a hammer to
my motor.. Once fitted I will post the results.. Cant wait.!
Thanks for everyones comments/help.... much appreciated. Med. |
