I went to see this distinctive 635 CSi last Friday near Birmingham as I was
driving past on my way to Dorset. I have since decided that I want an
M635 but it's certainly worth a look.

Spec is as follows:
Diamond Black metallic
Anthracite Buffalo Hide electric 'armchairs' (at least one motor not
working). Leather is very good condition. Rear seats have faded slightly
on top edges due to sunlight but should be easy to restore with Liquid
Leather.
Bronze tints
Full Shadowline dechrome inc. front grille.
Motorsport sill covers and rear valence.
75,000 miles with FSH.
2 owners from new, latest for 16 years.
Not been on the road since 1997.
15" (E34) cross spoke alloys.
New 17" Mille Miglia alloys.
Period (and probably very expensive) Blaupunkt cassette player, separate
CD player and weird graphic equaliser on a stalk!
The body and exterior trim is in truly mint condition and the car has a
new OE exhaust.
Under the bonnet is a little scruffy but would clean up nicely.
The boot has suffered from a bit of damp.
Toolkit is complete but a bit rusty due to condensation.
No air con.
HWW seized.
Will need a full service and checkover.
Not taxed.

With a bit of time and elbow grease it will make an exceptional Six.

I have some better photos on my camera and will post them tomorrow if
anyone's interested.

The owner is asking £6750 with the 17" alloys or £6000 with the 15"
alloys. Thing is, what's it really worth?

Well if it's really tidy & it doesn't need too much doing to get it up to scratch it would be worth maybe £5k.

Don't forget it's mileage - 75k.  How much do really good 635's with under 100k go for?  £8k?, £9k?.  Specialists like ML would ask £11k but it would have to be really good.

The guy obviously knows that so a £2500 bid isn't going to interest him.

£1200 ?? That's being silly.  Add up the cost of the individual parts you could sell & it's worth more in bits.

Work backwards from what it's final value will be, less recommissioning costs to find what it's worth.

Alas pre hiline non m power 6s are ignored in the market place , a very nice one with none of the usual issues should be worth £5000 but it isn't.  Munich legends pricing policy is irrelevent  and far removed from the real world (like the people who buy cars from them !).  Taking into account the cost of recommissioning ,if a hero gets out £2500 for this chariot the seller should get down on his knees.......

No matey, I'm reading the adverts.

If the car is as good as it's described then that's what they're going for when everthing is up to scratch.

I gave Munich Legends prices as an example of the top end of the market.  Irrelevant? They have a queue of people wanting Sixes from them. These people want top cars, not dogends & are quite willing to pay the asking price even if it does seem over the top to some.  So the market is there. Take houses, I don't believe a 3 bed semi in London is worth £750k but people are willing to pay it.

There's a world of difference between the top of the market & the bottom.  The car you buy & the price you pay is dependant on what your values are. Non functioning headlight washers don't affect how the car looks or drives but it would make a difference to how much I'd pay for a car.

I agree the sellers price is too high but if all the jobs were done how much would it be worth then?

Twice as much as mine - £3500 tops.

Everyone wants Highlines and M6's.

Metal bumper cars are just dead, ML don't want 'em!

A very nice 100'k Highline is £4500-5000.

B10 VYT doesn't say whether or not it's a Highline but yes, Highlines & M6's are in more demand than earlier models & that would affect the price.

However,

That depends on what your definition of "very nice" is.  My definition of "very nice" would be nearer twice that.  But for that, I'd want proof that the car had been pampered all it's life by a doting owner.  Such cars are rare because it took me a year to find mine but they are out there.

E.g. July TBMW had an advert for an '87 Highline for £7500 & the BMW Club mag had at least 2 for £10k.  Several people in the club paid even more.

Of course the asking price is no guarantee of condition. There are many over-priced cars for sale but (surprise, surprise) virtually no under-priced ones.

In answer to B10's original question, the car (as it stands) is worth whatever somebody is prepared to pay for it & that will depend on what they want from their Six.

Really? Well, a fool and his money.............

I've found a 1988E Highline Auto, Royal Blue.
Perfect leather (and I mean like new).
It's the leather dash version, original Blaupunkt.
New wings and dealer repaint in 2001 (receipts)
125'000 with FULL BMW HISTORY
Mint Metric rims with recent TRX's
Recent BMW exhaust, dampers(4) and radiator.
The car is absolutely stunning and proper.
Loads of new bits and Waxoyl everywhere.

It's a shade under five grand if you're interested.

P.M me and I'll pass on the owner's number.

So much for ten grand + eh?
It be black, hairy and I be afraid of it!

A fool & his money eh?
New wings?  If they were that shot what about the inners not to mention the rest of the car?
125k? Not outrageous but still nearly twice the mileage of mine.
Metrics? Throw 'em in the bin - add another grand for decent wheels & tyres to make it go round corners.
Exhaust? Nice. Radiator? Why? Has it been overheating???
Loads of new bits? Such as what, when & why?
Sure to need something spending on it.
If it's so good (& so cheap) why don't you buy it.

I could have travelled round the country looking at every dog-end described as "mint" & "stunning" but after doing it looking for a W107 SL I couldn't be bothered to go through it all again. Much easier to pay the money & get a "proper" one straight off.

You should try it sometime.
