Has anyone had to renew the rubber sealing strips that go between the side window glass panes on the 840. If so, how much strip-down of the door is needed?

Hi Wolf, yes realoem is a very handy website i use it all the time.  I have not heard of having to replace the rubber sealing you mentioned before.  Has it degraded or is it due to some misalignment cuasing it wear?  regards ian

Ian, I just have the car a few weeks. Its a 1998 840CI. The
passenger door needs adjustment as there is a small gap when
the door is closed - hence a fairly loud whistle when driving.

The driver's door has been off the car, due some damage,
and was not fitted correctly as far as I can see.
So the drivers window has been rubbing at the top just before
it closes and has worn the rubber.
So I thought I'd renew the seals while I readjust the doors.
Your diagrams have helped a lot, and I can see it should be
easy enough if I remove some of the rear trim. The window is very accessable then.
Now I have to do it

Wolf,

Just found your topic - have you now completed the seal replacement? If so have you posted the procedure on the 'How to do' forum and if not can you let me know what was involved, as I have to do the same thing.

Thanks, hedgehog.

Hi.
as I said, you have to remove the glass. See the above diagram that
Aussi840 gave me. It was what I worked from. Once you have the glass out, its just a matter of fitting the rubber strips. I used washing up liquid
as an aid to squeezing them into the grooves, and the top and bottom bits, I glued in with whatever you find best.

Watch out - take out one glass at a time - that way you have the other for comparison. I also took photos as I went along - they were vital in the end.

The diagram is taken from the following link:

RealOEM.com

This is a super parts list which is great for lots of jobs!

Good luck,
Wolf
