I agree Rhys, lets play nicely and drop it now, too much said about too little!

No, I haven't tried internet breakers for strip though I have located a cruise control lever through them if original doesn't turn up. With my limited working time I wanted to get the paint sealed with some polish now Nigel kick started it for me, and for some reason the manual says remove the strip to change window regulator/motor, and I still have that to do. Hoping to get polish and window sorted this week.

Nice thought about show car Mark, but asked Nigel about getting it to "show and shine" standard and the effort /expense involved would be too much. I'm happy driving it and getting up to a standard I'm happy with in my own time. As requested by several members, will keep you all posted!

Smiths of Bloxham, near Banbury, Oxon.

A bit of a trek but it's white

Lovely panels all round, no rust/dents.

Take a trip out there and plunder!

cheers Ringa329, may be going that way in a couple of weeks, will find number and give them a call. Thinking of 520's, think mine has the right door strips, may rob that while I decide what I'm doing with it!

Do you have any close up before pics Ian, to show them what we achieved ?

It would be a lot of effort to get it to serious show and shine level, as the car does have some rust on it, and niether Ian or I really have anywhere to work on it where we could practise paintwork, which is a pity as I'd love to have a go, and we both have small compresors and spray guns.

You never know Ian, if you do get to move dowm this way, then perhaps we could jointly rent somewhere in the countryside to have a go.

Best Wishes

Nigel

PM me a number for that one please Andy, I go down that way from time to time, and could pop in and have a look for Ian.

Best Wishes

Sadly no "before" pics, I only have the ebay ones and the ones I took outside my garage, though you might be able to enhance or enlarge them.

We're trying to get closer, Wendy's been on the blower today about it. Would happily join forces to set up our own little bodyshop, I have a MiG welder as well and assorted ramps, axle stands, spanners but no room or power in my garage here - any chance it'd have a barbie and a beer cooler...... I won't tell if you don't!

Nice pic Mark, hope the 528 comes up as good. 528 first car I've had for a while worth polishing as it came, minor rust on wheelarch rims above bumper ends both sides at front. bit inside boot lip, odd paint chips, nothing serious if I'm not showing it. Who knows, will worry about it when everything works properly on it!

Ian,

E28's (& the other shark era BM's) look superb in Alpine Weiss.

what a great job you're making of it.

it would be great to see some pics of your E23 & E28 moored alongside each other!

Been up scrapyard today, after fight with stinging nettles and dropping a door on my foot I now have an o/s side rear leccy motor and regulator, so may have all four windows opening and closing tomorrow, then I can put a strip on the door, refit the door card and carry on polishing.

She's had the 3 complete doses of T-Cut Nigel recommended plus colour polish and starting to gleam nicely. Then I can start on the chrome and clean the glass again. May even get to drive it by weekend!

I would recommends marquise 3 step so easy to use and makes t cut look like poo, and t cut is a sod to use, plus you will get much better finish with much less effort,

I fixed my back widow but no it has jammed again

Not heard of that, is it hard to get hold of? Found out the hard way T-cut takes a lot of effort to remove especially if you overdo it putting it on - oops........coming up good now though, Wendy noticed and commented how shiny it is now. Almost be a shame to take it out and give it a good run but after all the effort this week I need to remind myself why I do it! At least after all this it'll be easier to get clean.

Ian,

Mark is referring to the American made Meguiars range of car care stuff. he used their 3 Step waxes on the Silver Surfer and the result was awesome. More info here:

Ahhhh! the light goes on! Already moving on to meguairs after seeing Doive's results, will be trying some gold class on 528 over next 2 days. Going to have a go with 3 stage deep crystal, interesting on other forum about applicator pads, never used them before though on Nigel's advice did buy the £3 halfords wheel brush.

Promised to help one of Wendys friends today, some scumbag "keyed" her 323F Mazda all the way down one side, and we have the right colour scratch stuff and colour polish so giving it a go. Not worth claiming on insurance as with age of car would likely get written off! Also had her sons E39 on drive and they did same to that. Morons!

Nothing major yet Mark - just put the alpina reps from the E28 on and clear indicators front and side and transferred my ICE into the car - 1000W 12" sub, 500W SPLX amp and pioneer head unit for now. Possibly having a Viper2 chip shortly.
