MOT Gas Test

   On my 1995 320i Coupe just had a gas test as the exhaust is smelling a bit and seems to be down on power.The Lambda is reading 1.94 and am told it should be below 1.03 for an MOT pass. Being a higher Lambda reading am i right that the emissions are too weak. Does this mean the Lambda sensor is faulty or the Kat is on its way out? Anybody had this problem? Cheers
