To those who need Service Indicator Boards (or just about any replacement board for your BMW), try Programa parts.

They are Based in Florida and design and make replacement boards with modern componentry, not simply pattern parts.

www.programainc.com

I recently fitted one of their replacemnt 'Batteryless' SI boards to my 635, and it works great... well like the old one anyway.

It has no Ni-Cd batteries on it, therefore it should be maintenance free. It uses non-volatile flash memory (like the USB sticks) instesd of the old type of memory that needed battery-backup to hold the SI information.

The other thing is that the new Programa board has virtually nothing on it, due to the vast minaturisation in micro-circuitry over the last 20 years.

It cost me $222 including postage (£135) and £25 or so customs VAT, so the overall price was about £160. It comes with a 3 year guarantee, as opposed to BMW parts with 1 year, or breakers with the old 2 fingers.

It just fits in to the back of the instrument cluster in place of the old one.

I have to give them credit, since I feel that this part is fantastic. Goodbye to those Ni-Cd cell SI boards that caused so many problems.

-Ben

Interesting. Will store this away for future reference, even though current NiCd board's working perfectly....
