Spot on Micky & Robbie, ownership because of the badge may well be a motivating factor in a lot of cases rather than what the car can do.

Gotta be honest in that I'm having heaps of fun and no regrets about losing 150bhp on my car swap and since I never tracked my M3 I dont arrive at most places much later than I used to in the M.

Its still pigging ugly though. Previous M5s have all been incarnations of Muhammed Ali, style, poise n power whereas the E60 is Mr Tyson without doubt.
Gentlemen I may not have a brain but I do have an idea

Past; E39 540T/E46 328CI/ E39 535/ E39 520/ E36 M3/ E36 318iS jet black Mtech/ E46 320d/ E36 318iS diamond black/ E36 318iS blue Mtech kit

Agreed - the Last True M car was the E30 M3.
Up to then BMW built M Race cars and THEN built road M cars.

Now they build a road car, and then decide to create a M model out of it - at vast expense!

Watched it again tonight. Still mightily unimpressed.

Whats the point of being able to adjust the fierceness of the gear change?? Just make it a b****y manual and I'll change it as fiercly as I want! And when are they going to give up on this i Drive menu nonsense? No wonder people crash. They are too busy trying to find the radio station they want. Whereas I just push number 4 on the head unit for Kiss fm or number 6 for heart, Mr. 60k next to me crashes trying to do the same function.

After my experiences with my own e39 and other late BM's, I'd save my money and get one of the last 3.8 e34 M5's (the last pure M car??) and a late e38 for the weekly trawl through the traffic.

Or an E30 M3 and use it daily - like me!

everyone to their own
whitey don't know what your experience of the E39 was like but it must've been bad.

Having previously owned a late E34 M5 which was absolutely out of this world and now moved onto the E39 M5, apart from the later being more refined I feel that it doesn't detract anything from the car to make it a true M car.
2 cars which in my opinion richly deserve the tag of a true M car and I'm sure given time the latest generation will be accepted as one too

before everyone starts there is no doubt that the E30 M3 is a true M car

on a related Top Gear note, does anyone remember the cheap porsche segment last series where they bought a 924, a 944 and a 928?

a bit of background on how Jezza came by his purchase....

I've downloaded the entire episode of topgear from last week. If anyone wants it i'll stick it on a CD for them and post it for a couple of quid to cover costs. PM me if interested.

good option for payg dial-up users, alternatively you can download all the episodes if youve got either a quick broadband connection or an unmetered dial-up and a lot of patience...

to download these youll need a bittorrent client first, i suggest www.bittornado.com

Tonights episode should be interesting, pitting a 5-series diesel against a 5-series petrol
