I know I was singing the praises about XS Direct a while back - but I'm beginning to get irritated by them now.

It appears that they're fast becoming the only option through a load of brokers... I've started shopping around now for quotes, just to see what I can expect, and any quotes I've received have the €4000 excess on them... anyone else noticed this??

While the idea is good for people who don't have much NCB etc, I have 7 years NCB and full licence, so don't expect to have a 4 grand excess hanging over me...

Its quite a good idea as I said before, for people who've lost their NCB - it seems like the brokers just aren't offering any other options though, which is a bit of a concern as I approach renewal.

I'd have a very good quote if it was a 325 or 323, but Hibernian don't like covering the 328... and Quinn Direct won't offer a quote online for it now either.

Will give the AA a go when I get closer to renewal...

Obviously the brokers are trying to come back with the lowest possible quote.  When looking for a renewal or quote it might be best to indicate up front the level of excess that you have in mind?

I got a quote for changing to an e36 328i coupe last year and it was only about €200 more than the 523i fully comp, age 38, full ncb living in a small town.  There didn't seem to be too much trouble with getting the quote.  Is there a particular reason like the area you live or work in?

Any of the directline (i.e. OneDirect) or online websites aren't worth a toss with anything more than a bog standard mass market shopping trolleys so getting the phone book out is a better bet.

Don't drive to work - so thats ruled out, area I live in should be fine too...will be 29 at renewal.

I indicated I'd pay 500 on my excess, no joy - the broker websites used to provide a selection of quotes for me, but now all I get back is one. The online quotes I got used to be fairly close to the actual renewal, now I can only get an XS Direct quote online..

Will be doing the whole phone book thing, but am getting worried that the brokers are driving the high performance business towards XS only.

I reckon its just laziness on the brokers part, make them work for their money.  If they won't, move on to another broker.
