Help needed on Starter Problem

I need help.........
I've a '89 520i. I have just transplanted an engine but the Starter doesn't crank the engine, The motor has been verified ok, 
The motor spins but does not engage the flywheel. I am getting voltage at the relevant terminals but no joy.
Any suggestions would be helpful.

	sounds like the bendix arm is not engaging the the starter pinion. Is the starter the correct one for that new engine you just put in there? If so then i would take a look at the solenoid that sits on top of the starter.
