For those e46ers out there, found this on ebay when I was looking for a cd head unit for my e39. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-E46-Business-CD-player_W0 QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ38641QQitemZ7990858978QQrdZ1QQsspag enameZWD2V |

The band expander works on Japanese imports, as it expands the range a
Japanese radio can pickup - i.e. I think their range is 70fm to 90fm,
ours is something like 87fm to 107fm
Problem with US made radios is, they have the same frequency range almost as us - but their radios tune in, in odd numbers. I.E. if you bought that radio, you couldn't listen to the likes of 104.4 , 98, 90, 103.2 etc. as they are all even number stations. |

Why not just get a changer for the std head unit? Try these guys for e39 and e46 compatability. I got one of the Sony changers for the e39 and using the interface box that comes with it it connected straight up and the headunit picked it up straight away. The only problem that I had was that the Sony unit is slightly smaller than the std unit so it wouldn't fit in to the braketry that was in the side of the boot. I heard later that Alpine is actually the OEM and that one should fit right in. Beats paying main dealer prices of €500+ for one here. http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product_list/c_path/9_188_1 90/spd/bmw.html Edited by Dergside |

The head unit will work in Ireland. I bought an orginal E46 CD Head Unit for my car on eBay, when I installed it, it intally was on US settings, only tuning odd numbers in the FM band. However if you turn the ignition key to the first setting (i.e. Electrics only) and hold down the mode key for about 5 seconds, you'll enter the programming mode on the head unit and you can then select the region you want to tune for. |
