Topic: e36 saloon - L shaped rubber seals Posted: 17-July-2006 at 14:44 |
I've got an idea to try BLACK Tigerseal, rather than replace them, Ill remove the worn original and seal in the tigerseal. That'll sort it!

I agree beemerboy just got seal kit from stealer not bad about £27 though £65 fitting in screen centre does this sound about right. Thought it would be specialist straight away as bonded in screen.

I'd exercise caution here, I fit screens for a living and not every car will be as easy as described by llatsni. If the screen was replaced at some stage in the past, you could find that the moulding is bonded in with the screen, this could be deliberate or just where some excess polyurethane is catching the moulding ( this is also possible on some factory fitted screens ), if this is the case, removing the moulding could be very difficult, not possible without the use of tools and could result in breaking the screen. It is also possible that you could successfully remove the old moulding but have a lot of difficulty in fitting the new one without removing the screen.

Sounds eay enough, many thanks.

Update: I ordered the equivelant of part number 3 on the diagram above. It was about 26 euro and removal of the old 5 part seal was easy and fitting of the new 1 piece seal even easier. I did not require any tools (just strong fingers!). Done in about 10 minutes.

Hello, I'm collecting mine tomorrow night, did you replace all the seal? does the old one just pull out? give as much detail as possible if you don't mind? Thanks, Rob.

Thanks for that, I've ordered the parts from BMW. You have to order the whole seal because the corners are attached to it, does that sound right?
Has anyone changed the rear rubber themselves? is it hard? does the window need to come out?
Many Thanks

I think you have to buy the full rubber gasket set. This is the relevant page from Realoem which looks like No.3 is the set.
No.

Did anyone ever find the part number for these? I've just bought a 325td and all 4 corners are knackered, will this mean it can leak?
Cheers,
Rob.

hi chaps !! Beemerboy is right. mine are shot 2. Spoke to a screen fitter was told the same thing. Unfortunately you need the seal kit in two parts from main stealer though the price was not to bad !!! plus labour at screen fitters to do the job.
I will wait until the summer.

Tried to locate some of these myself a couple of years ago with no success. Went to main agent who said they would only come with a complete new rear window. Ha Ha !!. Got a mate who fits Upvc windows. He let me have a look in the back of his van. Behold all shapes, sizes and profiles of black rubber gasket window seals. Found some a very similar shape, cut it to size, a bit of mastic and no one could tell the difference. So ambush a couple of window fitters and you might get lucky. Had to buy him a pint mind, but then he bought me one back and a bag of peanuts so not a bad deal really.

As far as I know the moulding on your rear screen comes in two parts one piece for the bottom of the screen and one for the top and two sides, including the two top corner pieces,so basically they are not available separately. If the moulding is anythng like the one for the coupe rear screen(reinforced with a light metal), then it wouldn't be possible to fit to the glass with the screen in the car.As for the bottom pieces I'm not sure wether they are available seperately or not.
