hi guys, still got the 520i although it was off the road for a while after it was vandalised in chelmsley wood! ba****ds! anyway, its time for an upgrade so i want an E39, but the budget only stretches to a 96 or 97 520i, trouble is i know buggery about them, so who can tell me what to look out for, the ones im interested in all have aroun 118k miles on  them, obviously full history etc and im looking for leather and big wheels to already be on it, any pitdalls over and above E34 i should look for, im going to have a look around a few to get an idea of the cabin layout, OBCs etc etc, thanks!

Nikasil
Electrical problems (airbag light on...)
Catalytic converter - these begin to go after about 7 years (or 70-80k miles)
If you can then try and go for a 523i or 528i. I don't know your situation but running costs should be similar with the exception of insurance. Also the few extra horses would be appreciated.
