Hi there...

Can anyone recommend a reasonable insurance company? I'm just about to renew my policy.

Best I've had is £500, fully comp, I'm 31, have 7 years no claims and do approx 12k a year, does this sound reasonable???

Any suggestions would be gratefully recieved,

Thanks,

Tim

For a 328 convertible?  TBH it doesn't sound bad. My last "modern" car was a 2.4 Audi A6 2 years ago & I was paying around £500 or so then (aged 45!)

I was having to pay £570 for the 635 but that included agreed value. It's now £250 on classic insurance. The E30 316 Touring is £250.

And that's with a clean licence & NO accidents in 30 years of driving. Talk about a captive market!

Give Adrian Flux a call. TBH it sounds about right, I'm 30 with 7 years no claims and I'm paying just under £500 for my 328

Thanks Andys, maybe it's not as bad as I thought, though I would have £250 voluntary and £150 compulsory excess to pay in the event of an accident.

How can you get agreed value on a car? Is it only available on classic cars? I think my car is worth more than the market value, even though I could have bought a newer same car with less miles on the clock for what I paid for mine. Infact I went to see a '98' S reg 328i Conv with 50k on the clock for £1000 less, but you could tell the owner who'd had it previously regarded it as just transport, I wanted someones pride and joy. I bet if I do manage to get agreed value, it would push my premium up somewhat!!

Thanks Peter for your advice, is Adrian Flux the name of the insurance company?? Or is he a broker???

Thanks again,

Tim

I went through Chris Knott Insurance 0800 917 2274.

Problem I had was most insurers thought the Six wasn't old enough for classic ins. They wanted it to be over 20 years old & limit my mileage to 5k per year.

Chris Knott put me on a policy with Highway Ins & a top up policy for the agreed value. They wanted photos (both sides, front, back, interior & engine bay) & purchase invoice as proof of condition. Since in the event of a claim, the ins co. would just look in Autotrader & say 635's are £4k average so I had to cover myself.

Cheers Grahame, that is who I'm already with, well, I'm with Halifax but at the bottom of the letter it say's 'Insurance is arranged and administered by esure Services Limited'.

Thanks for the compliment too, from what I can make out of the thumbnail of your car it looks a decent motor!!

Thanks again AndyS for your input, funny you should mention Chris Knott, they are the only company to be able to beat my quote at Halifax, and I've looked on the Autotrader website for the cheapest premium on there out of the top 50 insurers, I've rang all the companies in the BMW Car Club magazine and I've rang a few brokers out of the Yellow pages today.

I understand that just because one insurance company may give me a good quote but to someone else it may be expensive, it is all down to each individuals circumstances and a combination of model of car, postcode, no claims bonus and excess etc etc.

Although Chris Knott can only beat my premium by £23 a year, I am tempted if you get the chance to top up the premium for the agreed value. The guy who sold me my car (With Hard Top) wanted £12k for it, that was with a warped brake disc, I could have got an 'R' reg 328i convertible for £8k at the time, but not the colours and condition I wanted or with the Hard Top, I also had to travel to London for it. Anyway, I managed to get it for £11,300.

Thanks for your advice too speedy, sound reasonable!!

That's very good Dave, if I can get the agreed value with them I will stay, I've got till the 02/09 to decide. AndyS has got me thinking though, I think it is woth paying a bit more to get what the vehicle is actually worth.

Have you seen anything of Craig lately?? Haven't heard from him for ages, but then I haven't been able to make the last two meets at Howden. I'm going to the Northern BMW and Porsche event on the 04/09 at Tatton Park, anyone else going??? Hope to meet some of you and your nice motors there!

Tim,

I used the Auto Trader website - you input your info and get quotes back straight away from most insurance companies - saves you phoning around. I eventually settled with Screen Trade - was nearly half of what I was currently paying for my M3.

Chris,

Haven't you missed one out?

Tim , Try giving my broker a call.  I have been using them for about 6 years now.  I always ring round when mine is up for renewel, and they ALWAYS beat any other quote I have had.  I have passed them on to serveral mates who now use them as well.

01207 592222.  Premier insurance, I always speak to Gary and he sorts me out.

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with a girl who saw Ferris pass-out at 31 Flavours last night. I guess it's pretty serious.
