Hi, Sorry for all my questions recently, but I have more ! I need to change the Air flow meter, Idle control valve and SI board in my M635 (1987) My question is can I use a AFM and Idle crontrol valve from either a 635 or 735 as there areseveral showing on ebay or do I need a genuine M635 component and is the SI board standard for the year and can it be taken from any '87 BMW ? Thanks |

Being a 24-valver, I think the M635CSi has an AFM all on its own, so you're unlikely to be able to use the bog-standard 635/735 one. The SI board: errm, you may be able to get away with using the one from the E28 M5 (not M535i). Not entirely sure whether the standard cars' SI board will be compatible. Thing is, you don't have the economy gauge, whereas the standard cars do. |

Thought so, have budgeted for the genuine parts but just trying to save a bit of money ! Could I take a AFM from a later 24V 5 series ? Also the car likes to stall when cold (When at idle)unless I keep the revs a little higher , any ideas? (Cooling sensor broken, being replaced tomorrow) Thanks |

If you mean the M5 3.6 it may be possible. You could try cleaning yours up first.

The airflow meter fitted to a M635 is only fitted to that model and e28 M5s . Best to buy new as most used ones will be 20 years old and sh*gged ,like yours. Assuming that is the problem, get all the basics checked before jumping in and buying lots of parts.

Get the SI board from www.programainc.com absolutely fantastic in my 6, and no ******* batteries to leak everywhere on their boards + a 3yr guarantee. Only problem is they are in Florida - but sent me mine OK, ended up costing about £150 after the UK customs import duty.(gits) check out the web -Ben |
