Yeah it looks mint apart from those awful graphics on the boot, but it is still a poverty spec one. It's even runs on a carb for gawd sake. Unless a 3.5 engine swap is easy (which is isn't cos you would need to install an injection system as well), I cant say I'd want it even if I had the space & money. Put it in a museum!

Carb 728 is absolutley horrible, slow and 17 mpg
with either a 3 speed auto or 4 speed manual.
Sorry but that's about as desirable as Herpes. About
£400 on a very good day. It's probably the only one
left, thank Christ. Who was dumb enough to buy it
new I wonder??
The only E23 worth having is 735iSE, end of story.*
Still £400 but a decent engine and a/c and leather.
*Or a 745i !!

If its mint its worth having 4 400 quid, It is still a very nice car, If I didn't bye the 735 SE with all the trimmings I would have still have bought one. I like e23's from basic to full, still great cars. I deal for a gas convershion.

Some extreme reactions there chaps. Don't old cars bring out the passion in people!!!
Regardless of its mechanicals, I still think it would draw an admiring glance or two at any show.
So there

Chas, nnnnoooooooo! haven't got over the other one yet!
I think it's a great car, but it's not worth a great deal on the open market! Shame, still I wouldn't just stick to a 3.5, and as for the 745, there's better e23's out there, such as Alpina's e23 and the Hartge cars!
I like the poverty spec cars personally.

You were right about the first gear governor on my e28. It's going into Automatic Transmissions on Monday week.

A battle of wits with an unarmed man? Now that
would be unfair.
Here until my BMW CC membership expires, in one
form or another. :-)
Maybe I should use the other P.C!!!! We were having
bets on how long it took you lot. About 6 weeks?
It's what my £35 a year goes towards whilst others
come here and use it for free.................
Dave, you can fix the autobox governor by removing
the rear part of the autobox in situ, but Andy will know
more than me. He Da Man.

You are of course joking......right? 745i would eat a
B10 alive - before you wound the boost up to 300
bhp. B10's don't have Buffalo leather or a glass
sunroof either. They're for poor people!
I spoke to Hiab about his 735i Exec. £300 complete,
still MOT'd. Excellent engine and box (I drove it back
from central London), lovely Buffalo interior and the
rear quarters are very saveable.

First prize - a pristine E23.
Second prize - two pristine E23's..........
You took two weeks so you've missed the bonus ball
prize which was a gold plated towing eye and a set
of whitewall Michelin TRX Metrics.
745i's do indeed have electric rear chairs Mark. Go
on, you know you want one really.
B10 indeed!

I've got many good memories of E23's so I'll tell you
a quick story about a 'pristine' 1978 728.
About 3 years ago I was on the way to Southampton
to pick up some mates for a trip to Newquay for the
week. The clutch went on my car (I think it was a
323i) so I got it relayed, without me, back to Oxford.
Scanning the Free Ads paper located a LHD 728 on
Swedish plates, Reseda (Receding) green, lime
green cloth and £100. 4 speed manual too.
So I bought it and it took us to Newquay, pulling
moonies at the speed cameras all the way doing at
least 40 mph over the limit. 6 guys on board, boot
crammed with tents and beverages, 90-100 all the
way down the A30.
One night we went beach racing in it (near Porth)
and nearly drove it into the sea (well it was dark). It
donutted very well in wet sand.
On the way back home on the following Saturday it
overheated. So I just drove it a bit faster until it spat
out a huge cloud of steam. Pulled over, added some
water, bled it out and off it went. I did another 1000
miles in it before it developed a knock (buggered
piston) and drove it into LC Hughes breakers in
Bicester. I have a piccie of it actually in the yard. To
be fair it was pretty rotten.
I hope no-one bought the engine.......
