Ok, so I know that R12 is illegal, and I also know that coverting to R134a is  expensive, so can I use a drop in substitute safely?

Saying that I'm not even sure if it needs recharging, when I press the air-con switch, nothing happens at all, not even a slight strain on the engine. Could it be electrical? Fuses are all ok but unsure about relays, dont know which one is for air-con. Any clues? If I can find that, I can exchange it for another relay of the same type to see if that works.

Needed it today, dark car, black leather and hot sun without air-con aint nice!!!!
