Hi, Not sure if i'm in the right forum or not. I have been offered what is described as a BMW E30, 325, Baur Convertible, 'H' Registartion.

I have been looking for a 3 series convertible. Does anyone know if this is a Proper car or conversion. I have been told £2000 since it has a "rarity" value.

Any feedback would be appreciated..

Cheers.....Chester

I thought Baur convertables were older than H reg? Maybe wrong, maybe the E30 register would be a better start point - shall I move it in there?

The Baur's did continue long after the proper conv was introduced in '86 but sold in very small numbers because of the availability of the conv.  They usually had the smaller engines because they weren't available in the conv until later in the e30 lifecycle.

Values would tend to be a good deal lower than an equivalent condition conv.  The Baur was a factory "approved" conversion so the quality should be fine but they have a fixed roof frame, a bit like the early Jag XJS Cabrio's, rather than a full conv hood.  That may be a plus point in terms of scuttle shake.

If the car is tidy with history, then £2k sounds alright.

Whe I bought my 320i conv, about 4 years ago, the dealer also had a tidy 316i Baur of the same age (but higher mileage) for less than half the price of my (mint) car.

Now: BMW 523i SE '00, 318i SE - e91 '07, 325i Coupe '93.

Prev:
e46 328i SE Touring, 330Ci, 318Ci.
e39 523i SE.
e36 325i Coupe *2, 323i SE, 316iSE.
e30 325iSE 2dr, 320i Conv, 320i 2dr, 316i.

Cheer's....... Many thanks for the info, I have had a good look at it now and it's not so tidy, mileage is ok 108675mls, but no service history at all. So I have decided to pass it by and keep looking.

Again many thanks for the info.
