Thanks for the reply. I was getting worried. I find that Hillclimbs are a very social weekend with most events being on Saturday and Sunday. On Irish events the orgaising club often has a prize giving dinner on the Saturday night. There are about 30 to 40 regulars on the Irish hillclimb scene. As for being competitive my 1300cc 8V goes nowhere against the 1400cc 16V cars in my class, but there is always someone running about the same speed as me and I usually can have a good bit of sport with them over the weekend. With the gaps between runs you can get have a bit of "craic". A lot of people bring their wives and families with them as there is not the intenseness of a race paddock or a rally service area. So buy something cheap and don't worry about the other guy and you will have fun. |

I must admit this is something I quite fancy doing.
I know a few who do compete in BMW's now and again, but they tend to be a little heavy for their classes (or so it would seem). |

Hi All. I compete in hillclimbs in Ireland, I am interested in making contact with anyone who competes in Hillclimbs or Sprints in GB or Ireland. It does not matter to me if they do not compete in a BMW (I use a 1300cc FIAT Ritmo! http://homepage.eircom.net/~goconnor/image074.jpg ). Things I am interested in what BMWs are competing. Are there many BMW engined cars. Any BMW bike engines in the likes of OMS or Jedi chassis. I am hoping that Santa brings me a Pilbeam MP88 this Christmas. One can dream. I started racing the Ritmo in 1994, did my first hill that year. I have concentrated on hills since 1996. Looking forward to an interesting discussion. |
