IMO his prices are a touch OTT....for my money the 530 sport is def OTT, the E34 looks cool but I'd be looking at the 520-great colour, not bad price plus IIRC that year will have the uprated 2.2l engine.

As a comp I've just looked at a V-reg 1999 528 auto in glacier green with full SE spec and black leather with 17" space alloys and new tyres with 63k on the clock for £7995 and he'll go south on that price too.

if you've got 80k to drop on a car thats God's way of telling you you're earning too much.

Be interesting to work out the depreciation involved in driving off the forecourt.

If it were me i would by the 530 over the other cars.In my opinion the 540 is now quite an old car and will probably need money spent on it too make it nice not least the economy will be terrible!!I have driven one of these and although it was a rapid i thought it felt too heavy on the front so i bought a 525i 24v instead!

The 520 even with the 2.2 is unloved hence the knock down price!! and will be hard to sell on and wont be that inspiring to drive needs a manual box to be any fun.I have driven one of these too and felt it needed more torque to get the best from the e39 great chassis, hence thats why i bought the 528i.

The 530 is the best allrounder as it is more than powerful enough and wont be too heavy on fuel and with that spec wil be easy to sell on in the future.

Just my opinion which is worth 0.02pence.!

Disagree, the 520 2L with twin vanos or the 2.2l uprated version arent missing much out in torque however I'm biased cos I have one and mine is manual....not sure what the auto's like but would've thought that you'd need the bigger engine.

it is BMWs version of VVT. Single vanos works on only one set of valves (inlet IIRC) as with my E39 523i. Double works on both intake and exhaust valves.

yes, its variable valve timing like vvt and vtec, this explains the difference between single and twin:

The 530 sport has some very desireable extras, (Comms pack/Sat Nav, Leather, Xenons, Glass Roof) and assuming it doesnt have spaceship mileage looks like the pick of the bunch.
