Ta  for the info will try the e30 zone- headers- you  might call them extractors - most are only for left drive cars eg racing dynamics  or Irelands hence my enquiry here but I'm in down under and thats not Aus. We drive on the right  & play rugby.

I think his email is russellg@longlife.co.uk

he runs the cardiff branch. He will fab u almost anything from stainless.

alternativly contact infinity exhausts in weston super mare, ask for Martin, Mention me (craig, black beemer), he should od you a deal.

Hi Craig

Thanks for that.

Slight problem

I am in in New Zealand so dont have a local phone directory handy.

I was hoping to be able to buy something good off the shelf ready to go that just needs fitting like Ireland Engineering's Left Hooker ones do.Doesnt have to be stainless but good if theyt were.

Racing Dynamics make some (expensive as)but again only for L/h drive cars- hence my enquiries in the UK

The E30 zone didnt turn up anything yet but am still looking

sounds like I may  have to try to find a local fabricator here to make some which I am a bit nervous about as these things need to be made properly & tuned tested properly.

Gidday Craig & Nigel

Heres the reply from Infinity Exhausts.

Presume they are scourcing these from somewhere else & have added their margin- what do you think?

Brendan,

Did you mention to Martin about me? This is to be fair, cheaper. over here they are around £800 i believe. although, i think the price may be slighty "adjustable".

You could also arrange for a courier to collect and wrap the items, as this may be cheaper for martin.

Alternativley, make your own. I made my own coilover conversion, among other things, so it can be done.

U will need a gas mig welder, and mandrel bends. you could then order or take your existing manifold to a machine shop to et the base plate copied/ fabricated.

Get in contact with longlife exhausts as well,
Tel: 029 20 473131 uk,
and ask to speak to russell george. he may be able to help. make sure u mention me otherwise he may not take the workon.

i have spoken to russell for you. after a lengthly conversation he can do the right hand drive tubular stainless manifold often sold for £560 for £489 + delivery. He can have the item delivered for an agreed amount, or you can arrange for your own collection. this offer is available through www.335itc.co.uk or by contacting russell directly on 01792586888, or russellg@longlife.co.uk.

Any other items please feel free to contact russell above. I will be listing on my site in the next few days a list of the preferential rates i can get from Russell for bmw's.

He is going to look up all the BMW items he can supply and give approximate figures so i can quote. These prices will most likly be the cheapest in the UK. i am unsure of warranties etc, but i believe they may be lifetime if he fits them.

Regards, Craig.

please note this site is not for profit, i just have excellent contacts.

No problem Brendan. Russell actually called me regarding your enquiry. I think he would have responded to you, but i thought you would like to know asap, and others may be interested.

I know when i had the 2.5 in mine the cost of it was very high, mind you when you do get it you will see why, the clearances are very close. they do not touch, but just double check your engine and box mounts.

I am probably going for the same but for the 3.5 for my e30, and with the size of the engine and pipe i want it will be even tighter.

I think i was quoted for £1200 from a major fabricator for the full system (manifold and system), plus fitting!

Am i right in assuming "extractors" are the equivalent of UK exhaust manifold, and US headers. Rus wasn't too sure. it was only because of your post i knew.

Hi

sounds good

Yep extractors or headers- same thing- equal length mild steel or stainless pipe formed with a mounting base plate or plates  onto the block and then a collector or gatherer down under the car & into the exhaust system.Unlike the std exhaust manifold which is caste iron and which then bolts onto the exhaust system

Have a look at Ireland Engineering - they have some  good pics & also some other good bits

extractor configurations can be 3 into 2 into 1

or 2 into 2 into one

just depends on whose making them and experience

I suspect the heat sheild will need to be allowed for when fabricating

there is also a german site which specifically deals with fitting the 3.5 into the e30 and shows excellent stage by stage photos- I ll see if I can get the web site address off my mechanic here for you

my laptop got ripped off a while back & I lost all my bmw address's- bugger

hi, if its the same version as i got it will be 3 in to 1 (two of), and then exiting via twin system.

the site you were thinking of is www.335i.de. something like that.

I looked at the site to start with, and got my engine mounts fromthem (would make my own now, but i wasnt as short of cash back then)

that was two and a half years ago and the project has changed a little since then.

The car now has a genuine m3 body (rear m3 wings welded on outside, from a saloon, the 3.5 is tuned to around 290 (m5 throttle bodies etc), and the suspension is coilover, i have 360 mm front discs, 6 pot calipers,

and after saving alot the interior is finally off to classic holdings in the UK tuesday for a full re-trim.

whislt this is happening over xmas im having a go at respraying the car myself lol.

So,unfortunetly ive gone a bit past my original idea of following what it said on the site, and doing that. if i had i would have been finished about 2 years ago.

Sounds like a real beast! Yep thats the site. I toyed araound with the idea of doing the same thing with my car for awhile- there is a guy here who has done it- hes a BMW mechanic on the North Shore here in Auckland - I'm due to have a spin in it at some stage so will see, but I'm probablly just going to do a engine rebuild -blueprint, balance and port & polish on the 2.5, fit the new extractors and do the other bits that need doing then replace all the door rubbers window rubbers fit a new strut brace- car already has nolathanes all thru , bilsteins hd sway bars and handles very well so thatll finish it off

so will keep you posted

Brendan
