I have just purchased a 1985 manual 635, the previous owner has done all the bodywork, it it worth replacing all axle bushes?are thes loads of money, and how many are there on vehicle?

I want to spend the winter going through all these things, to have a sortrd car by the sumer.  I also purchased a complete and running auto(b reg) on ebay last week for £250.00 anyone require any spares?

I am based in Surrey just off J11 M25

Axle bushes are not exspensive, but you need a special tool to get them out. I think i paid £170 to have both axle and dogleg bushes replaced including parts and labour. Really tightened up the rear end.

My parents house is just off junction 11 of the M25 so i can come and have a look at your car if you want an offer you some advice. Would come down in my 1985 manual 635csi, but can't get the car out of the driveway at present due to it firing two foot flames out of the back. (It has an ECU problem) and i am waiting for a moment to borrow my friends trailer and take it to my mechanic.

All bushes unless replaced will probable be in need of replacement quite soon. My advice is to slowly work your way through them in pairs. None are that exspensive, but they add up if you get them done in one go.

Pitman arms (what James refers to as dogleg/dogbone) are an absolute doddle to change & if past their best, their replacment with new items will really surprise you in terms of feel & confidence.
More so than the axle bushes IMHO.

I paid £90 to have my axle bushes changed by an indie, a job I can't do myself.
My 635's.

Hi
I'm interested in some (black) interior parts off the B-plate carm and a
pair of front fog lamps.
If you do the bushes in the front control arms, consider fitting urethane
ones instead of the standard rubber. This is an E24 weak point, and the
urethane bushes outlast the rubber ones.
Cheers
Dan
