Hello all,

First of all, lovely looking site, i've been a member before but have forgotten my login and password.

either way, it looks like things have not changed too much.

Just looking for a bit of advice regarding diffs on E30s.

I thought that
318i had a 3.65:1 in manual form
and 3.9:1 in auto format.

i also thought that as the engines got bigger in the range the diff rattings went down.
I'm asking as there is some question about it for the Miltech e30 challenge.
cheers for you help in advance
James

Generally, yes, the diff ratio does drop with engine size, but some cars had different ratios for the same model.

Not sure about 318i auto, but manual should have had 4.45 or 4.27.

My 320i touring had a 4.10, late sports had 3.91 LSD, and early sports had 3.64 LSD.

The 318is used a 4.10. The 325ix would probably have the same ratio diffs!

Hi Paul, not sure about front, but the rear would have varied slightly from normal, it seems there was quite a variation in what ratios were used too, must be for different countries.

325ix saloon could have had 3.91 3.73 or 3.64 and the touring 4.10 or 3.91

What is the highest ratio diff i can get for a 325 and what is the top speed it would allow as i am building a track car and getting the right diff is important.

Cheers in advance

James
