Hey folks

Does anyone know of any specilists in Cork. I wanted to get 325 intake manifold fitted but have been told about 1200 all in by the main man.

Hello everyone,

I am a newbie and just wanted to introduce myself. I am willing to buy a 318i E30 from 1990 and since the car has a lot of miles and will need some work I was wondering whether you had some bm specialists in the Cork area. . .

Thank you very much for any help,

D.

Hi all, for some reason the links yez are putting up don't work for me. Am in Galway city & am still on the lookout for a decent bloke/garage to do the servicing without ripping me off. Anyone have anything to say about a place called Galway Car Care in Salthill? or another dude in Liosban Inds. estate going under the name of AutoMotion?

Don't know either of them, although I'm, sure others will have more local knowledge, but I do know John Roche in Gort, recommended on here.  Top man if you don't mind travelling a bit out of town.

you could try fahys in oranmore.  got mine down there recently, inspection 1 and oil change for €110.  they had tried to contact me to tell me that they were changing the brake pads, when they eventually did i told them that i had a new set in the boot and was waiting for discs they took off the new ones and replaced the old ones with no hassle and no charge either.

A BMW specialist garage local to me in northern Ireland has done all the work to my car.  Put in a suspension kit (forgot to tighten up one of the rear shocks and reconnect the rear speakers).  Put in a replacement fan last year then another in the summer then another the next day. The car overheated on the way home, when I got home and pressed the button to lock the doors the alarm sounded a constant squeal.  Next day his assistant who says he doesn't like BMWs said the fan was fine and the head gasget was gone---'Time to send her down the road' he said 'You'll need to take the car to a spark to have the alarm fixed"  The third fan went in and the overheating problem was cured.   They fixed the alarm by turning it off so now I have no remote locking etc.  Replacement radiator (cable tied in and instrument panel always bongs stating coolant low even if its full).  Replaced wing mirror (fell out next day replaced free).  The owner is friendly and easy to pay and will always go out of his way to help you out and I think HE is a good mechanic.  I have also had my clutch replaced cheaply £225 with no problems over 2 years ago.  I have spent £750 on my Bilstein suspension kit, it rattles and veers to the left and right on bumpy roads.

I think if you want to keep a car forever then spend a few extra quid and have it well looked after.  My car has been really cheap to keep on the road over the last few years but it is fast approaching the scrap yard.

Andrew

nice one, cheers lads. will try John Roche in Gort - don't mind the drive, sure I could go check out the local stand-offs whilst I'm waiting...

Is there a contact number for him somewhere? or should I trust the yellow pages?

Savo, no offence but sounds to me that bloke is having a laugh at your expense... BMW Stealers here (Barry Motors) messed with my alarm here where I eventually had to change it but with the small claims court facility in the south, they also paid for it...

No expert on these matters as new to the forum and getting used to my beloved e39.  I was quoted €1300 from a dealer this week to replace some sensors and thermostat and a couple of other jobs.  They also couldnt do for a couple of weeks.

Got same jobs done at bmwcare (found details on this website) and saved myself more than €600 and job was completed within 24 hours.

I would highly recommend and will definitely use again.

I read that Maxwell Motors are parting company with BMW.  I believe there are a few other dealers going to follow suit. Apparently the BMW requirements are too stringent or restrictive.
