Hi,

have a look at www.bmwe34.net
Loads of valuable info on there.

cutting out could be a relay as said above. the white relay in called a dme relay of Main relay. it controlles the ECU i think. I had issues with a 318(1989) and it was a white relay in the engine bay that causes issues

You can find out the correct engine type, the transmission type and the month/year of production with the VIN decoder. Go to my website below and look for VIN decoder and type in the last 7 digits of your chassis number.

I am not entirly sure what type engine it is!!  Sorry for ignorance, but this is my first BMW (yet I am a GR8 lover of the cars), I do not know what type engine!

I will try your suggestion along with others suggested, thanks again.

Hey Moyah8 - does your car have the M20 12v single cam engine in? If so then I have the same car as you, which I have had the "pleasure" of completely replacing most of the parts that could possibly wear.
To check your steering problems you will need to jack the front end of the car up and firmly and agressively rock each front roadwheel side to side. If there is any movement then you need to identify the cause. It may be just be an outer tie rod bush, or the N/S idler arm jumping up and down.  If the Pitman arm on the bottom of the steering box is worn/slack you will see this movement too. Slop inside the steering box can be "dialled out" using the adjuster on the top.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the reply, I will check this out and update.

Out of curiosity, how much did this relay cost? Also judging from your explanation is it fair of me to assume that it is a DIY job?

Kind regards

Hello Everyone,

I too am having the same wobble whell problem.  Recently purchased a 1990 520i and noticed that the wheel wobbles, and at times seems to have a bit of play in it.  Could my problem be the same as Miks?  Please help.

Also, I was driving today and the egine just died while I was driving.  Placed the car in nutral (it's a manual) and then restarted.... it did, then just died again had I not keep my foot on the accelerator.  This fault repeted itself for about 2 minutes then all was well.  PLEASE ADVICE.

Thanks
