To buy a reset tool is waste of money in my opinion. Why do you not spend a bit more and buy a fault scan tool, a fault reset tool, an service interval reset tool, and and oil service light reset tool.

That saves money in the end. I have the PEAKE too. Very handy and worth the money. I bought it directly from USA

Resetting can be done with a small length of wire to short out the relevant pins on the diagnostics socket.  You don't need a special tool for that!

I use a draper 12v test screwdriver-I stick the screwdriver end in pin 7 & The crocodile clip on one of the nuts above the strut, leave a few secs with ignition on,turn it off & bingo-lights are sorted :-)

I use a short length of wire too.  I even used a pair of scissors once!!
Never had any problems.

I've always used the length of wire trick. (Mine has a fuse in it to be double safe).  It always worked on the E34, it has worked twice on the E36....but last time on the E36 it did not work.  I tried it for 3 seconds, 10 seconds and then 30 seconds.  Any idea as to why it didn't work?  And, no, the fuse has not blown.

Of course you can do it with a paper clip, but that is all you can do. That is why I recommend a tool which can also read faults. That helps you a lot. Here is another link for diagnosis tools

Singer and bass player from Thin Lizzy. Great stuff - love the cowboy song.
I saw a great tribute band - Limehouse Lizzy,  dunno if they are still about like?

Cheers,

Tut tut Stephen!  It's comments like that causes Elgin to get a bad name

Haven't you heard of Thin Lizzy?  And who do you think composed the TOTP theme tune (along with Midge Ure)...?

Always thought that the old one was a hell of a lot like led zeps whole lotta love (bit off topic that).

But Phil Lynott was a great bloke-did some good work with Gary Moore as well.

I only paid £5 for my resetting tool as the owner had sold his E32 735i for a ford focus and no longer needed it.
