Hi, im new to this car club and was wandering if anyone could suggest a decent, reliable insurance company for a 318 ci coupe E46 model registered 2000. Im in mid 20's and live in Stockport (north west)with clean licence. Is it worth paying to join a motoring club to get a discount? Any suggestions appreciated thanks....Dean

A-Plan also do BMW insurance, very competative on price (haven't found an others cheaper)

Though Privalage said they would beat any quote (only by 1) initial quote was excessive tho'.

I'm renewing with A-Plan as they are sticking with last years quote for this year as well - which is cheap.

tesco insurance is very competitive, beat all my other quotes for the alpina by a large margin... the sierra is insured by elephant.co.uk - give them a try too

in my experience (bmw car club gb and xr owners club) car owners club insurance schemes are no cheaper and in most cases significantly more expensive!

Just had a look at the Tescos site, 292.96 for me (fully comp 10K) still more expensive than A-Plan which was 249 (fully comp, 15K co claims protected).
Might try them next year, or get a quote for our lass when she passes her test.

I have heard Direct Line offers competitive rates. I personally hold Tescos but may change next year. It's wise to check with Direct Line as they will be my next choice....

Funnily enough Tescos paperwork is identical to Direct Lines - I think Tesco may be underwritten by the same company (Royal Bank of Scotland?)

My wife has jsut had to renew on her new Punto. She searcherd on confused.com and the Post office came out best well over 100 less than her current Norwich Union Direct (did not quote her happy!).

she like the confused site as you only complete details once and it then mass mails a raft of insurers. PO were very helpful and and not phased by business use or European travel.

Try the BMW GB website and their own insurance....

Because believe it or not they have quoted me the cheapest price by over 200 for the renewal on my 6's insurance in March.

I tried them all and Budget Insurance of Coventry (AXA Insurance)gave me the best provided I could prove nine years no claim - luckily I had kept all my paperwork for the last ten years.
My fully comp including my daughter who lives with us was 259.08 with 9 years no claim. They were insistent on proof of the 9 years.

Try 'First Alternative'. I'm 29, have a 535i e39 with on street parking and I pay 500 when some were quoting 1000!

First Alternative wouldn't even quote me, don't know why.  Never had a problem with Directline.

I've just got the E28, and changing my policy across from my Astra only cost me 80 quid, despite a rise of eleven insurance groups from 4 to 15E. I'm only 24, fully comp is coming in at 260 quid with swift cover, who seem to be the cheapest by some margin. People have told me that they are hopeless when it comes to claiming for an accident, but hopefully I'll never find out! I also have my Chevette insured with them for 170 a year, while some classic policies were quoting well over 300 for a limited mileage policy. So I reckon they are ok.
