Isn't glass usually excess-free?

Not over here Sir!  Every policy I have had has been £50 or £60 excess.

I had to get my windscreen replaced before my last MOT.  RAC windscreens £60 excess but I got a horrible huge ugly RAC logo bonded into the glass.  I have managed to hide it with my tax disc holder though.  Try and ask for a glass screen that does not have a big logo on it.

At Christmas I had to get a stone chip repaired and that was free i.e. paid for by my insurance company and I think that would have been nearly £60 also!

About 18 months ago BMW quote me almost £400 to fit a new windscreen to my e39 (with the rainsensor)

I choose to use RAC Windscreens as I only had to pay the £50 excess. The first time RAC did it the screen was lobsided so I got them to do it again. Been fine ever since. So all ended well!

Ouch!

"the guy i spoke to say's they charge £565 fitted, 2-3 hrs work"

I have rain sensored screen and hope that I don't get a chip! Pretty sure my insurance is a £60 excess, but that only covers up to about £300 for the replacement.

Apparently with the increase in cost for making screens the cost of excess has gone up and will only cover up to a certain amount.
