Is that a real one? The plaque looks decidedly iffy
and not like the ones in my B9 3.5 or the C1 2.3. I
might be wrong though.
Does look like a lovely thing mind you. There's
something about E28's with Alpina rims and a nice
low ride height!
Wonder how much he wants for it??

Sorry, too fick to do that!

The serial number looks way too big and is stamped
onto the black bit rather than the small rectangular
polished bit.

Love the XR4i by the way. My old Man had one as a
company car in late 1983, A plater in Cardinal red!
They were actually a pretty accomplished car.
There's a black one in my local scrapyard.........

I would have thought it looked pretty genuine to me - read the article in full last night and is for sale as well. There were a lot of pictures in with a lot of Alpina decals. I would also have thought that they would have checked the car out to confirm its genuinity. I would buy it if I had the money - oh to own another E28 and an alpina in one go

Had what from new - a real B10 or an M535i?
Anyone can add a set of Alpina wheels (which don't
have centre caps - is that right?) and some dodgy
lowering springs. Real B10's were never that low
although many (my B9 included) had aftermarket
springs added.
It's a lovely looking car, but something doesn't quite
add up.

If you read the article, which I have as I always buy it, says it was an M535i sent out to Alpina to be converted into a B10

Well I have doubts...........

Firstly the article says it's a 1985 car - it's actually
October 1986, originally D registered.

The first B10 built by Sytners was built in early 1985
and it might have been B570 HAU. The article says
this was the first B10 Sytners built which is complete
nonsense.

As for engines - they were built by Alpina and
shipped over. I doubt very much that the engine was
removed and sent to Germany and then brought
back with a Sytner mechanic when it took one bloke
about a month to build the engine. What did the
Sytner bloke do? Clean the bogs?

If it really was a 1986 B10, it would have the later type
alloys fitted from early 1986 which had lockable
centre caps. The wheels on this car are older B9 and
early B10 types. The Alpina plaque looks like a copy.

As I said, this car and the story don't add up. But I like
it a lot - it looks fantastic.

It does look fantastic and I'm pretty sure it is genuine - I would have thought it would be easy to trace whether it is or not through the BMW network and if it is genuine he would be more than happy to show paperwork as it is for sale

Sorry Andy, I have to disagree with you there, the owner may well have bought it as an M535i, then a few months later had it converted to B10 spec, so does that still not make it a genuine Alpina, 1 owner from new etc?

Jimmy's B10 was ordered from Sytners, and collected and serviced (running in) at Alpina in Buchloe, yet is still classed as a UK B10!

Unless you talk to the owner, you can't say it is anything but a genuine car. He must have all the info regarding the conversion, and provenance must be easy to prove.

Do this and disprove it as a genuine car?

As I've said, there are too many holes in the story.
For a start this one owner car had an owner change
in 1994!

It's not the first ever UK B10. It's got the wrong
wheels, the plaque looks iffy, the springs are wrong
(too low) , no B10 badges etc etc etc.

Now there could be an explanation for everything -
maybe it was in his company's name and he
changed it in 1994. But I doubt Alpina in Germany
would have converted a secondhand car and neither
would Sytners. Nor would they have sent their
mechanic to Buchloe - what for?

Sytners have converted used cars though, if it was within a certain period from date of reg, and dependent on mileage, they'd do it!
Like you say the spings can be changed, and the owner change etc will more than likely be explained by something like you state above, as for badges etc, you didn't have to have them fitted.

because the E28 B10 was a UK only model, maybe
the plaque is something Alpina in Germany made
up. Odd that it doesn't have the later wheels because
it should have. The car is late 1986 registered which

wheels were long gone unless it was a case of
'chuck zese on Heinrich, zer English Pig Dog vill
never know'

But I'd still like to see all the paperwork and talk to
someone at Sytners/Buchloe........

The car is genuine - was ordered from new as seen in the pictures and is listed in my files with all the detail from Sytners build records even had the same registration from new.
