What's the layout for the day?

Check mondello.ie for the circuit layout.  In terms of organisation, the cars will get divided into 2-3 groups which are based on the power of the cars (so people will be driving with cars of a similar ability).  The groups go out alternately for 8-10 laps and then come in to let the other group off/allow brakes etc to cool.

How many laps do we get?

Between 30-60 depending on how handy you take it and whether your engine blows up or not.  I can't remember exactly but i recall Eamo did 64 miles on his obc last time iirc.  If this sounds like very little, believe me its not.

What's the likely cost?

€150-200

Apart from tyres, what gets the hardest abuse from a session like this, your trousers?

 brakes, gearbox, and nappies

I did over 60miles in mine aswell. It's more than enough... that's 60miles between 4,000 & 6,500rpm, and an 8.4mpg average for the day

Tyres & brakes are the obvious wear items. Technique minimises the wear to these alot, so head out with someone experienced if tis your first time, as a few tips on braking points and lines make a big difference.

you dont need an m powered car to enjoy the track day - theres loadsa power in your own 523.

And even then its not about power but getting the most out of you and your car.

leave the scooby at home!

I have been practicing the National track in my CSL... if I could get past the next few levels I can unlock the International track.

It is sim type game so very tricky, throttle too much and you are in a spin. Might I add the CSL handles better than the 911 RSR, the RSR is way to twitchy.

Eamo-  it was fine when I took it out but it's a bit heavy in the corners, and especially now that it's the national and not the international. The scoobie is alot more fun across country but for everything else i'd take the 523 anyday. It's amazing the comfort and refinement in the 5 series when you've gotten out of something else.

Brian, why not bring the M3 to the ring at Easter to warm up for the BDD, there is a load of us going over again this year, although the GP track wont be open for us to drive on this year, as those bloody Porsche GT's are using it that weekend

I atteded a track day last year, it was a good day out but the only thing is, I am not a full member, no membership card etc. I do want to join the club and avail of the Paddock meets prior to track outings but dnt hav a credit card and dnt know how i can pay cash! I think one can only participate on track on presentation of memdership!!! Whats the story!!!! HAHA I would be up for either track by the way, as i have never driven on it yet so i aint fussy!!!!

Killian

I thought after the muppetry at the last track day that people wouldnt be allowed to join on the day any more??

Mick

(ps this is not anything personal against Paddy...I have no idea who he is and he may be a top bloke for all I know but we all remember what happened the last time)

(pps I have no right to comment anyway since unfortunately I can't make it!)

Thought that was the case myself Mick - although personally I thought it was a great laugh having to jam on rapidly fading brakes to stop because some guy decided to stop and wave at some girls on the back section of the track...

Gerry in the main office told me they woulnd't allow people sign up on the day - but that was more to do with the whole hassle they had understanding the difference between sterling and euro.

Sorry - you are indeed correct.
If someone wants to join then they will need to do so before the event.
