   Hi chaps Autobox fixed. it needed replacing ouch!!!! on the wallet.
fluid had gone black burnt box. 
Car is now with me in surrey so hope to finally catch up soon at a meet when shifts allow as I work at Gatwick.
Do E36's have a trim panel in the top / roof of the boot area. mine is metal with hole where triangle etc would go.
1992 320se 4 door.
