just been rear-ended tonight by a young lady in a rover 100 (metro) the good thing is the Police are the witnesses.

to the bare eye...my car will need rear bumper, boot slam panel and reverse sensor's re-placed (boot lid itself look's fine)

the wee rover is a write off, bonnet bent, bumper dropped, 2 light's smashed and water pouring from it, to say i was annoy'd is an under statement but ive calmed down now (bottle of after shock and 6 can's O miller)

poor young girl will be charged for "driving without due care", not my worry but still feel it a bit harsh but the law's the law and with policemen as my witness they can only act on what they saw?

Sorry to hear that, good to hear no one's hurt.

Have a look at the silver 5 here, there are some parts you might need to get back on the road

That's a shame mate, but a testament to the build quality of BMWs, and perhaps the lack thereof of Rover 100s! A mate of mine used to have a Rover Metro, and travelling at any sort of speed you felt vulnerable to oncoming insects. They just fold up like a house of cards, meaning it probably took 90% of the impact, while the big BMW acted as a sort of crash test barrier. Poor girl, I hope she was ok - those cars are absolute deathtraps.

Hope you get it sorted mate - and insist on getting the bodywork done at a bodyshop of your choice.

Try (and I know this is hard) to make a positive from a negative:

at least thats 1 more Rover off the road!

Good luck with the repair. Hope it gets sorted fast as well.

Thats reminds me of an interesting point, Doive

Three years ago I was in Swindon and got rear ended by an E46 3 series BMW while in my Lexus GS 300 Mk2 (with Nos).

I was well hacked off as the driver had no excuse. I got out and looked atmy back bumper. there was a crease when his numberplate had impacted my bumper. it had barely cut through the paint. The front of his bimmer was trashed though!

I took his details as he wanted to pay cash. (was his dads car. not sure he was insured.) in the end I never even pursued it. I should have taken a couple of hundered quid right then as at least a deposit. but I was not feeling too mercenary.

Point being, I think the back of a car is much tougher than the front. his headlights and bonnet were all tw@ted while you had to look hard to see mine had been hit.

Not always the case Loz! I think new cars are designed to fold up at the front, crumple zones etc etc. Thing is, your car may well have been mangled under the skin - I'd have got that checked out. Case in point happened to me a few years ago in my astra, was smacked into at a set of lights by a brand new Citroen picasso which took out the whole back of my car, smashed bumper, twisted bootlid, bent slam panel, lots of damage - the picasso had a tiny bruise on the leading edge of the bonnet and that was it! I was well miffed, until a specialist looked at his car. Turned out the impact had caused the underlying crush structure to deform, effectively adding a few zeros to his repair bill! I felt better then - he should have been paying attention.

Apparently if you kick a Volvo 850 in just the right place nice and hard, a vital part of the crumple zone collapses and more or less writes the car off. So a reliable source told me!

sorry no pic's, went up to where it happened on the off chance the rover might still have been there, but it's gone.

just gave mine the once over now it's day light, must say "2nd to nun" i was expecting to find more damage than i first posted but nop the build/strength quality of my BMW has saved it from being worse , also think the fact i took my foot of the brake as i saw the rover come closer saved on some damage?

i wish i had pic's of the rover as i'm not exaggerating the damage to it it realy was a mess.

Wow, you've come away remarkably lightly from that one. As for the Rover, no real surprise, they are built from blu tac and bits of meccano.

Aside from the slam panel its invisible then? Nice one!

as a point of note. ALWAYS take pics at the scene even when youhave witnesses. thats what cam phones are for!

What cannot speak, cannot lie. Witnesses can "forget" or be bribed. just for future reference...

Lucky escape. I guess you'll be driving around until its booked in for the work then. Sports bumper would be cool. worst case scenario, you could pay thr difference...
