Just had an MOT, wheels have been balanced and tracking has been carried out but I'm getting vibration through the steering wheel when travelling between 50 and 60 mph. No problems at any other speed. Can anyone shed any light on this problem ? Thanks.

Have you searched any forums for this problem?? You'll get about a million matches!!! Everyone has had this problem to some degree I think. I think a common cause is one of the arms being worn(thrust arm and theres another one in there aswel). Another cause is having aftermarket wheels which dont fit on the hub exactly- you may need spigot rings or out of round tyres.

I had that problem last week - changed disks, shocks and top struts as they needed doing anyway and gone. The last time it happened my lower track control arms were shot. Main thing is to check for play in the wheels by holding the wheel at 3 & 9 o'clock and shake - should be no play. If there is then check ball joints - most likely cause

Hi,

Before going mad get the wheels balanced by a specialist as I had the same problem and changed disks had the wheels balanced twice by Quick fit types and still it wobbeled. Eventually on advice from this fourm I got them balanced by an old Expert and the car now run on silk.

But It could well be more than that.

Cheers

Thanks for the replies. Took the car back down to local tyre dealer who re-balanced all four wheels for me then swapped front wheels for back and all is OK now.

Hi I have a E28 528i and have the same problem between 50-60 and the problem is on and off sometimes on accelerating and others on decelerating. I have been advised that it may be the uj on the drive shaft worn, I have changed the discs and had the wheels balanced on 3 occasions  and it still happens intermittently so hope yours has now been solved
