Coupe / E24 Events 2006 This year is a significant year for owners of the E24 6 series. Some of you may know and those that don’t do now that the six series are 30 this year. Consequently there are a number of events that will celebrate this birthday. I also want to encourage owners of not only the six, but all other coupe’s to actually use there cars this year. Far to often meets are geared towards just looking and polishing ones car, which is fine, but this year I want to get owners out there driving there cars and appreciating the engineers that have designed the ultimate driving machines. Therefore there will be a combination of pubs meets, formal shows as well as drives and events that involve using your cars. The first event of this kind was the rolling road day held at Power Engineering were 12 sixes were put through there paces on the rollers. A full summary and explanation of this will be in TOTAL BMW upcoming issues and in the club magazine. Now lets get to the dates and venues. Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th March 2006. Sunday 16th April 2006. Rearranged Munich Legends Meet due to securing the above show. This will commence at Ottershaw public car park at 10:30 am where drivers will drive to the Squirrel Inn via turnpike style directions for about 40 mins. We will then stop for a quick lemonade before departing to Munich Legends for the second leg of the journey of around 50 mins were we can eat in the Red Lion. We should be able to meet up with Barney and the gang and will get a good drive in. I will need prior notice to photo copy the required number of route mats and I advice you bring maps with you. Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st May 2006. The World Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch is sponsored by BMW and the 2002, E30 M3 and E24 six series will take centre stage as the Birthday celebrations continue. This is a two day event with the main races happening on the Sunday. There will be a special stand area for owners of the birthday cars and we are trying to organise if possible a cavalcade subject to permission from Brands. This is the main event of the year. I have a list of hotels and there is camping available. We will have a club discount for entry. If you are only going to attend one event this year this is the one to come to. Thursday 15th – 19th June 2006. Sunday 25th June 2006. Devils Punch Bowl meet and drive. Meeting starts at 11am in the public car park. Then at 12 mid day we drive down the A3 in convoy to the squirrel Inn Hurtmore for food in one of the best pubs in Sunday 2nd July 2006. Classics and Retro Show. Santa Pod raceway Northants. We have attended this the last two years and it’s a great event. There are plenty of trade and auto jumble stands as well as the opportunity to take your car up the famous quarter mile. Certainly a show not to miss. Sunday 23rd July 2006. Newlands Corner meet and great. Meet up at 12 midday and chat and socialise with other members and owners. There is then a choice of eating establishments ranging from the Barn Café to some nice local pubs and restaurants. Good views are guaranteed. As most of you are away for August I thought we could all save ourselves for Gaydon the big national festival. This again will have lots of birthday celebrations. Look out in the club magazine for information on this one. You never know we may be able to have a go on the Aston Martin test track like last year. September 17th 2006. 11am meet up at Epsom race track followed by a drive and dine to the Squirrel Inn Hurtmore. This event is not yet confirmed as I need to check that racing is not happening on this day otherwise it will be a little busy. Tattenham corner public car park off October 15th 2006 German Car Show October 22nd 2006. Autumn National BMW Spares day and Show Donnington Exhibition centre. Expect a big car club presence at this show. This will probable be the last coupe event for the year. There is always a great selection of cars and a number of trade stands to pick up those little nick knacks you always wanted. |
