Topic: 60mm lowering springs Posted: 06-March-2006 at 06:25 |
Are 60mm springs available anywere for the e24 or are 40mm the only option available?
As with the e30 there they ride high so i dont think 40s will sit it down enough for my liking, Im not worried abt comfort as its for ocassional use only.
Any help or links for stockists appreciated

My e28 sat on 35mm lowering springs and once the suspension had settled it dropped 50mm - was too low and had to be extra careful with car parks etc. Pic:

That E28 looks real good paul,
Id be looking for a little bit lower than that even if possible,I may just get Budget 40s and see how it goes as you said, The budget brands do usually settle more than say Eibach or H&R cus the qualitys not there.
Im not building a track car so i minding it with kerbs ect doesnt worry me

She's gone to the car heaven in the sky now! Was going to cost me too much to put her through MOT. Bought the 530 for an extra £50 (£475) and good as gold. Good luck on your quest. They were apex springs by the way.

She needed a full exhaust, the bodywork was sound, but had started to rot underneath. Had the bodywork welded underneath above rear axle mounts and passenger front jacking point. couldn't find another exhaust anywhere. The only other problem I had with the car is overheating when stuck in traffic. But as soon as the bonnet was lifted it would return back to the middle and didn't budge. If I could have found another exhaust I would have kept her. It had clear indicators all round (apparently one of two in the UK to have the rears done as well. The chaps who bought it came down from birmingham and took one look and bought it there and then. Another pic:
Still miss her like crazy and if I could find another one in polaris silver then may go through the whole process again.

About the e28 pics: amazing car!!!!!!!
About lowering springs: I used ventura springs from eurocarparts, really good cosmetic for the car, but not effective on the road....After3 years the springs were 55mm down at front wheels and 35 at rear...And i also totalled my 60k miles Boge standard shocks. If your usual roads are plenty of speed bumps, forget about a 60 mm lowering spring kit, or You will damage the front spoiler(if you feel lucky...You can also break the sump ...The sump of my car still has the signs of a bad bump...it has only little signs of "grinding "(right word, i hope), but I was doing 5 mph or so .

Thanks for the info Franceso,
Dont think iv ever used Ventura springs before, They may not stock for the e24 or is that what you had them in?
I know what you mean about grinding i had an 325is down 60mm on Irish roads lat year and its tedious but worth it anyday looks wise.
Reminds me! i had a Turbo Diesel Sierra with welded diff, Boost and Fuel cranked up couple of years ago,(Bought for 200euro for RWD action, we put 2 spring coils in all round and it was absolutly slammed, ended up pulling the sump nut clean out of it on a cats eye overtaking!,
The pressure light came on but the car served no furthur purpose so i kept it wound up till it seized and gave it to the council.
Fun at the time,A scrapper is the best way to learn RWD charicteristics/limits if you ask me!
