CD Adapter Cable (again!)

   I asked this several months ago, but thought I'd try again as no-one could help me then.
I have a '98 e39 520 with the regular cassette business head and 6 cd changer.  It's a 1 piece unit.
I got my paws on a cd head unit, but it's a 2 piece unit.  Unfortunately, there's no wiring to connect the 2 pieces, and it won't plug into my wiring loom.
Helpful parts guy at the dealers too it overnight, but reckoned that there was no part available to connect it to my car, and that what I'd have to do is get a section of the loom from an e39 with a cd player and join it to my existing loom.  Not something I want to play with, or have anyone else play with.
The question is, has anyone else upgraded their headunit, and how did ye get it working???
