    Posted: 24-March-2006 at 09:10

Has anyone got an original BMW fire ext fitted to their M3

Just got one off ebay and it looks like i have to drill a couple of holes in the seat frame !

Is this correct or should they bolt on to existing fixing points ?

Kinda weird as mine had one factory fitted apparently , so unless someone has changed the seats i would of thought the holes would be there, unless its the wrong bracket.

Any help most appreciated

Cheers

Andy

Mine had one fitted and the holes had clearly been drilled afterwards. Not saying that is factory, that's just how it was on my car with a BMW extinguisher.

On the original BMW Sports seats the holes are already there. If it doesn't fit... it's not BMW or not E30...

Weird

That is the right one, I had one fitted to my last E30, and all the sport seats I've seen have the holes in the seat ready.

As for it being out of date, then it is very likely, but these old BMW ones can be re-charged.

Maybe its my seats then ?

Someone did mention they were the ones with the bigger bolsters (think that is the right term ?) and there is a  steel bar to move the lower cushion out (is this standard?)

It will fit if i drill the seat frame but i don't want to do that if its not right

Thanks

Andy

Ah..you have the proper recaro seats then, if so, it will not have the holes, and will need to be drilled.

Yep, sounds like the old style Recaro seats. They used to have brackets for these as well, but they are NLA.... patience required on eBay... or a bit of drilling...

I've got the same seats and my extinguisher has been attached with 2
velcro straps, saves drilling holes and it still comes out quickly if the old
girl bursts in to flames (or the car come to that). You can get the straps in
most hardware shops, they come in black and you can get ones exactly
the right length
