bonnet release cable replace

   has anyone attempted to change the bonnet release cable on an e36?
mine has stretched and is very frayed,its gonna snap any time.
trouble is i had a look at it today and can't for the life of me see how to get to it at the catches.
it looks like i need to remove the air con rad and/or the front grill panel,has anyone else attempted this?
