I have a 1999 (T) 528 i SE Auto which runs fine when it's cool but as soon as it warms up, the throttle response is very sluggish and the kick down doesn't work till you push the accelerator all the way to the floor.  Strangley enough, if I use the cruise buttons to accelerate, all seems much better.  This is the same in D or in sport mode. Any thoughts please?

Hi wallace, just found your thread

Thats the bad news!!!!

£800-900 fitted at the dealer. Dont even go down the route of getting non-genuine parts, its not worth it and in my opinion its a waste of money.

It might be worth sourcing a second hand 1 and just replacing it. My cars done 140K so im not prepared to spend serious money on it!! whats your thoughts?

Mine has also done 140k miles and I've just ordered a replacement part from 247 Spares for £250 + VAT so here's hoping..... if I get 1/2 the life of a Beemer part then at that price I'll be happy as it seems easy to fit. Thanks for your help.

"Eastwind"The CAT!

Wallace-Let us know how you get on fitting it, it may be different to mine as mine is a 523i, think the cat shape may be different.

Have you bought a CAT replacement or a complete second hand exhaust?, as the original exhaust are all 1 piece. I was thinking it may be easier to dco a whole exhaust replacment.

I had simillar symptoms.  Inlet cam pulse generator used to get affected by heat and when you restart I think the computer used to go into default mode so no power.  Replaced and working fine now.  Also rear n/s speed sensor was intermittent so replaced that too.
