New Member and 6 lover

  Just recently joined this club, having been a member of the drivers club for 4 years. There is much more going on here which is great.

Have owned now my Artic Blue 635csi for nearly five years now and still absolutly love it. I spent 6 months looking for a post 85 car with a manual gearbox and finally found it two miles away from where i was living having looked at about 20 cars previously and spent my entire student grant on it. tehe. It was a special order from germany specing a manual bos LSD and artic blue which was not available in the UK. I have every document and bit of paper for it that has been produced in it''s 18years of service. 

Over the last 8 months I have put my car through a rolling restoration repairing or fixing anything that was not perfect which has included a new wing, any rust cut out, removed treated and area resprayed. New suspension, brakes, wheels. Full application of stone chip paint and waxoil. And hopefully over the next three weeks I will have saved up anough to bring the leather back to it's former glory by having it reconolised.

I am currently considering upgrading the front brakes to those from an e32 750 or 850 which includes changing the calipers and discs and pads. Has anybody got any comments on this, have done this or have any advice.

The E28 (5 series), E24 (6 series) & E32 (7 series) brakes are interchangable. The brakes listed below bolt on without any modification. This requires calipers, carriers, guide bolts, rotors and pads. You need the carrier for each brake system, usually included if you buy used. If changing both front & rear it's best to upgrade the master cylinder too.  A thorough rebuild of your standard brakes may give you the improvement you want!

E28 535 282mm x 25mm vented or E28 M5 300mm x 30mm

E34 535 302mm x 22mm vented

E34 540 302mm x 28mm vented

E34 M5 315mm x 28mm vented

E34 M5 345mm x 32mm vented from 6/94

E32 735 302mm x 28mm vented

E32 750 302mm x 28mm vented

E31 840 324mm x 30mm

Rear brake assemblies that fit any E28:

E28 535 284mm x 10mm solid

E34 535 300mm x 10mm solid

E34 540 300mm x 20mm vented

E34 M5 300mm x 20mm vented

E34 M5 328mm x 20mm vented from 6/94

Somewhere like that. I was sharking around various E24 sites & found quite a bit of info on brake upgrades. General consensus seemed to be that in normal street driving the standard brakes are ok if in good condition. Track days & storming the Stelvio pass would start to show up weaknesses. Increasing front disc size gives a slightly longer pedal action, increasing the rear as well means you have to change the master cylinder too or the pedal action is too long.  Good luck!

Have been to bigcoupe and have posted my details. There are a lot of nice 6's on there, although the american spec cars are spoiled a bit by those horrible side bumpers Don't you think!
