Does anyone have rear mudflaps fitted?

Discovered they were still available from the dealer so I ordered a set.

According to the instructions they glue on with a small clamp to secure the flap to the bottom of the arch lip. There's an extended part of the flap with a slotted hole that looks like it bolts to a bracket or some such in order to support the inner part of the flap.

There's no bracket with the flaps & RealOEM doesn't show any.

I suppose I could make up a bracket if needed.

These flaps are for '87 on cars, ie. Highline bumpers.

Yes.

...well... not so much "fitted"....more like "hanging on grimly"....

There aren't any brackets as such. You've got the metal hanging plate to the top, which is held to the wheelhouse with one bolt and, on the mudflap itself, there is another bolt with clam-style washers. These washers grip onto the adjacent body seam....and that's all there is for the chrome-bumpered cars.

Andy, I fitted a set a few years back. Seem to remember there was a couple of clips but don't recall any brackets. I'm not at home so can't nip out and have a look either. I'm sure someone will advise soon, lots of cars seem to have them fitted.

Actually got a set of front mudflaps (like hen's teeth) from a BMW dealer in Saudi on Xmas day '96 !!

As Horsetan would say, "a picture is worth a thousand words", so here's 2000.



As you can see, the flap sits snugly around the rear side panel. The raised portion with the slot is obviously intended to bolt to something but it's an inch or two forward of the black rear arch splash panel (the bit that's riveted on). Not sure if the splash panel is on non-Highlines.



From the wheel side.  The clamshell clam is supposed to fit on the angled side of the flap just to the left of the extension.

That would leave the inner half of the flap flapping in the breeze. BMW obviously intend it to be supported by an additional bolt.

that looks different to mine. mine bolts with two of these clam things along the horizontal bit of the flap and a bolt through the top of the bit that runs up the inside of teh wheel arch
