I will be moving the forum to another host this evening.
Therefore it will be necessary to close it, make a copy of the database and then move everything to the new hosting account.
I will close the forum about 8pm this evening.
This may unfortunatley take 24 hours for nameservers, etc. to propogate but I will make it as quick as I possibly can.
Thanks
Killian

I am going to lock the forum shortly.

Right then.
The forum seems to be working again.
Sorry about the long delay in getting it back online. Various small cock-ups coupled with the fact that my new place of employment now means that I can't ftp externally or even open up the sites control panel (due to the port in its url). I really was working hard trying to get it back online.
Anyhow, to cut a long story short, its back online after our previous host disappeared (********). Seemingly, others who had websites hosted with them did not make frequent backups and lost both their data and also therefore their customers!
Id also like to thank the people who offered both assstance and luck over the last week or so. You (& I) know who you are!
Lastly, most members uploads are online now. My 2 year old son decided that the plug to my PC would look better disconnected from the wall so I think a few may not be online but there is no urgency with them.
Cheers.
K.

Well done Killian.

Glad that you got the forum back in time to provide a distraction from the football.

I had fierce difficulty in getting a host that supported SQL Server databases the size of ours. Most allow 50 or possibly 100 MB. Ours currently is about 250MB and growing.

Killian

I've had a couple of occassions since the forum moved to the new server where I've typed a reply to a post and when I hit Enter it seems as if the connection to the server drops (doing this at work so the pop connection is good).

The only common factor I've seen is that the replies were typed over a period of time (e.g. started it before lunch and came back to finish it just after).

Is there a time out setting once a thread is opened that might be causing this?  My browser is IE 6.0 and I'm not seeing issues with other sites.

Dergside - this sounds exactly like a timeout issue. Killian will be able to confirm exact details upon his return from hols.
