Hi everyone,

I could do with your help please. A/C has stopped working, a/c shop has confirmed all ok with system, just no power to compressor - they changed the condensor I supplied from GSF last yr & its been as sweet as a nut until its really needed.......

Black car, black leather, sweaty bits......

I have checked ALL indicated fuses visually & with the continuity of my multi-meter, so its not those. Unfortunately (or not, dependining on your perspective) I had to stop faffing under the bonnet & pack on Tuesday as I've now emigrated to Dubai.....

So if I can help my wife to get her a/c working remotely, that would be a real testament to the benefits of forums!

The car is a late 95 produced Cosmos black E34 520i SE, with cruise, a/c & sunroof.

Thanks in advance, trying to avoid an auto-electrical shop as I've been down the road in the past........

Cheers,

Dave

Thanks Mick, so its relay 5.

I'm trying to see which 'box' that is?! Doesn't look like the underbonnet fusebox, for a start I can't see any fuses, neither does it look like the fuse box under the back seat.....

Although the right foreground of the picture looks like the passenger side suspension turret?!

The writing next to the picture says auxiliary relay panel...., where the b'jesus is that I wonder??

Much appreciated Mick. Now to work out what & where!

Dave,

Sorry the bit I didnt show you was on the page before. It says that the Auxiliary relay panel is mounted to the front left corner of the engine compartmant. It houses various relay and on later models a limited number of fuses.

That's most useful Mick, cheers!

I'll instruct my wife to look for this box. Why can't BMW just keep things simple??!! So that would mean what with the main fuse box, the fuse & relay box under the back seat, a third one got fitted as well........

Her car is a very late E34, so fingers crossed it has this box.

From the fuse box size you can already see which box that is. In my opinion it is very simple.

The main fuse box has much more relais/modules and fuses. And the e-box is nor called fuse box.

And if you want to DIY, a Bentley Repair Manual is the minimum one has to buy.

I'm back, still in Dubai, wife cussing me from the UK as her a/c still isn't working.....

Thanks for all the help thus far guys.

However, I don't remember seeing that box anywhere & my wife has snapped some pics & emailed them to me...

Doesn't make me any wiser, anybody else??

Yes, thanks Mick - still can't find a reference to any other box or relay location. Most frustrating.

The main fusebox & the one under the rear seat.

Thanks. Ok, our car definitely does NOT have that box anywhere obvious, certainly not where others have it.

Our 520 was one of the last produced & according to the print-out from the stealers the car was fitted with a/c, so no chance of it being a retro-fit.
There is no reference in Haynes or Bently to any other locations.......

I can feel a trip to the local stealer (well, local for my wife, not for me in Dubai.......) coming on.

It's so bloody annoying as it was working a treat, then the summer arrives & it decides to not play ball. Wouldn't be so bad if the relays (if moved for whatever reason.....) could be located, would have a fighting chance of DIY'ing it then!

Frustrating as I'm in the Middle East, car & wife back home in UK.
